Motivation for the Origin of the VSC
1. There have been many such study circles in the educational institutes throughout the length and breadth of the country. The roots of the present study circle can be traced to the the motivation from the unique Vivekananda Study Circle in IIT Madras (http://vsc.iitm.ac.in/). IIT Madras has always seen students interested in profound subjects, and earlier small and informal groups used to exist even in the name of Vivekananda Study Circle itself. The institute, JNTUHCEJ, Karimnagar is a fledgling in the field of education in science and technology, having been established way back in 2007. It has to imbibe the spirit from models in the other spheres of the field.
2. Celebrating National Youth Day and remembering and recalling often the inspiring message of Swami Vivekananda and his call to the nation is not new to JNTU culture. In JNTU College of Engg., Kukutpally, earlier, Swami Tadanandaji, the then Director, Vivekananda Institute of Languages, and Sri.A.S. Murthyji, the then Dy. Director of Vivekenanda Institute of Human Excellence addressed the students in JNTUCE, Kukutpally campus auditorium. In another year, in the National Youth day Celebrations in the JNTUCE, Kukutpally campus, Swami Srikantanandaji, Director, VIHE (Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence) and Sri.A.S.Murthyji, the then Dy.Director of VIHE gave their graceful talks giving the inspiring message of Swami Vivekananda and his rousing call to the youth. In JNTU College of Engineering, Kukutpally, Hyderabad, a general culture has been established over the several years to celebrate the National Youth Day on 12 Jan every year. Taking cue from the model, which is in the best interest of the best practices to be followed by the students as well as the teachers, the deliberations between Dr.Govardhan, the Principal and Dr.Chandra Sekharaiah K. Professor in CSE (both of whom have evidenced and experienced the good culture of organising events in JNTUHCE, Kukutpally (where they served earlier) such that the students imbibe the inspiring message of Swamiji and values) were fruitful for the celebrations which were hitherto unknown to the students in the JNTUHCEJ which is in the inception stage. A proposal was submitted and the administration was quite encouraging in response for the benefit of the students in the rural place. The proposal was accepted. The seeds for the celebrations were thus sown and led to the idea of the Vivekananda Study Circle.
3.The seed that the administration planted, watered with the selfless efforts of many students and some faculty, sprouted towards a formal Forum named Vivekananda Study Circle, on 18 March 2010 with the inaugural talk by Swami Shitikantanandaji and Swami Raghunayakanandaji on the occasion of the valedictory function of the 3-month long celebrations during Dec 2009 - Mar 2010. The dignitaries, while interacting with the students who were part of the Vivekananda Study Circle and Sarada Brindam in the Principal's room, advised the students to not leave the endeavors there and then but to continue to hold the spirit by engaging in regular, periodical activites following the model of IIT Madras for their own benefit and skills improvement.
4.Thus, two libraries were formed for the two SIGs (Special Interest Groups), Vivekananda Study Circle and its sister concern Sarada Brindam to imbibe and follow the spirit and the model.
5. In Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, there is a Yoga Village on the beach road, attached to the Institute for Yoga and Consciousness, where various training programmes in yoga are conducted. In Bangalore University also, there is focus on Yoga and training in the curriculum in the campus. It collaborates with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore (S-VYASA), Bangalore for various programmes in the field. JNTU is a similarly well-established university and it has to lay focus on such training for its student community and it is facilitated by VSC which is organized by the students themselves. On the part of the Univ., the institution has provided required support for such purposes and it is high time that students form a SIG in this direction. And, for this purpose, VSC is formed. JNTU forum will have to make out a style of itself in this method following the aims and objectives. In the very logo of JNTUH, the dictum is given as "YOGAH KARMASHU KAUSHALAM" (Yoga is dexterity in action). The aim of the VSC is to bring up the student community with the ideals set by Swami Vivekananda and by the dissemination of his message which is for HUMAN EXCELLENCE.
