What happens after Election Day?
A majority in both the township & city approves the PARC millage.
- PARC becomes public property, overseen by the Plymouth Area Recreational Authority (PARA), a joint city-township board.
- PARA uses millage funds to renovate the building and infrastructure, and build a performing arts center.
- PARA will contract with the PARC nonprofit to continue arts, recreation & education programs.
- No taxpayer dollars will go to operations. Rental of space in the old and new buildings will generate revenue, and PARC will seek gifts and grants.
- Plymouth residents will receive discounts on PARC-run programs, and have access to free meeting space.
- Starting in 2020, voters will elect PARA directors.
- Gifts and grants over $1 million will flow to PARA, potentially reducing taxpayers' share of the cost.
The millage doesn't pass in the township, city or both.
- PARA will be dissolved.
- The PARC facility will become the property of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, which will determine what to do with the property.
- The PARC facility cannot continue to operate without major costly renovations.
- PARC could be closed.
- If PARC is sold, all proceeds must go to charity.
- The facility may be vacant for years until a developer receives approval for a new plan, which may include tearing down the building.
- The community loses a chance to preserve the past and create the future.
