PALLAVOLO SPORTS SAFETY PLAN
RISK ASSESSMENT – July 28, 2020
· Based on Contact Intensity and Number of Contact:
· Pre mitigation = high. Post mitigation = low.
- Pallavolo Sports has identified areas where people gather:
- Shade
- Picnic Tables
- Control Tent
- Bleachers
- Team Benches
- Pallavolo Sports has identified situations and processes where individuals are close to one another or members of the public:
- Control Tent
- Playing Surface
- Bleachers
- Team Benches
- Pallavolo Sports has identified the equipment that may be shared by the individuals:
- Volleyballs
- Control Tent (results board, sunscreen)
- Pallavolo Sports has identified surfaces that people often touch:
- Control Tent (check in table, results board)

· Washrooms – There will be no access to washrooms or changerooms
RISK MITIGATION: FACILITY
• All programs will be outside.
• Minimize the number of participants on a court (2 vs 2 format).
• Reduce the number of commonly touched surfaces.
• Participants will be required to bring their own sunscreen.
• Staff will be responsible for recording all results.
RISK MITIGATION: PARTICIPANTS
- Groups will remain small (6 participants per court).
- Participants over the age of 65 will be further educated as they are at greater risk.
- Staff & participants will be required to complete the COVID 19 BC Assessment Tool prior to commencing activity.
- Staff & participants displaying symptoms of COVID 19 in the past 14 days will be unable to participate.
- Participants will be encouraged to “Get In, Train, Get Out”. Socializing will be discouraged.
RISK MITIGATION: CONTACT
- Staff & participants must adhere to physical distancing protocols.
- Spectators are discouraged and must adhere to physical distancing protocols.
- Dedicated volleyball and equipment for specific groups.
- Volleyballs & equipment will be cleaned and disinfected before, during (at scheduled times), and after use.
- Staff & participants are to avoid unnecessary contact (high fives, handshakes, hugs, etc.).
- Staff & participants are to refrain from sharing items (water bottles, towels, etc.).
- Participants are encouraged to use their feet to retrieve balls that have entered their court from another court.
- The use of electronic whistles is encouraged.
- Online registration & payment (e-transfer only).
RISK MITIGATION: HYGIENE
- Staff & participants must wash their hands before, during (at scheduled times), and after activity.
- Staff & participants must refrain from touching their face during activity.
- Staff & Participants must cover their mouth & nose with a tissue when they cough/sneeze. The tissue must be disposed of immediately
ELIMINATION
- Participation capacity has been reduced to 12 teams (4 courts)
- 2 vs 2 format
- Maximum 4 – 6 per court (21m2 per participant)
- Occupancy Limits have been posted
- A sign stating (Max 6 participants per court) will be attached the office (table/tent) at check in.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- All staff & participants must:
- Complete the COVID 19 BC Assessment Tool each day prior to commencing activity.
- Abide by proper hand washing and other hygiene protocol.
- Refrain from touching their face during activity.
- Use enhanced cleaning protocols to clean equipment before, during (at scheduled times), and after use.
- Obey posted signage, directional signage, and maps.
- All entrances & exits will be clearly marked.
- All walkways will be "yield to oncoming traffic".
- All participants will have dedicated equipment.
- All participants must refrain from unnecessary contact (high fives, handshakes, hugs, etc.).
- All participants are to refrain from sharing items (water bottles, towels, etc.).
- All information will be communicated via email to all participants.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
- Masks are optional for staff & participants as physical distancing guidelines (or the use of barriers) will be met.
- Masks and gloves are required to be worn when physical distancing measure cannot be met.
- Attending to an injury
- Providing first aid
- Masks and gloves with be provided by Pallavolo Sports
- Mask training will be provided electronically
- BC Centre for Disease Control
HYGIENE PROTOCOL
- All staff & participants will be provided with the enhanced hygiene and cleaning protocols via email (prior to activities commencing).
- Hand sanitizing areas will be easily accessible.
- Enhanced hygiene protocols will be in effect (hourly).
- Staff & participants are required to sanitize their hands before, during (at scheduled times), and after activity
- Enhanced cleaning protocols will be in effect (hourly).
- Participants are required to clean equipment before, during (at scheduled times), and after use.
- Staff is required to disinfect equipment between uses.
- Staff is required to clean & disinfect the control tent and all frequently touched surfaces.
- Staff will have dedicated equipment to reduce the need to share equipment.
- All unnecessary equipment has been removed.
POLICY (SICK, ILL, SYMPTOMATIC)
- All staff & participants must complete the COVID 19 BC Assessment Tool each day prior to commencing activity.
- All participants must sign a waiver prior to participating in an activity.
- All participants must sign the COVID 19 Declaration each day prior to participating in an activity.
- The following participants will be prohibited from participating:
- Anyone that has had symptoms of COVID 19 in the last 14 days (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, etc.)
- Anyone directed to self isolate by Public Health.
- Anyone that has returned from international travel within the past 14 days.
· Staff & participants that start to feel ill while participating must:
· Notify the Control Tent (first aid).
· Wash hands, wear a mask, and immediately leave the facility (or isolate until they are able to leave).
· Call 811 for further guidance.
· For severe cases: call 911.
· Clean & disinfect any surfaces that the staff has contacted.
COMMUNICATION & TRAINING
- All participants will be provided with Pallavolo Sport’s Safety Plan via email, including staying home when sick.
- A hard copy of Pallavolo Sport’s safety plan will be available on site at the Control Tent.
- Clear signage will be posted at the Control Tent:
- Physical Distancing
- Hygiene Protocols (hand washing)
- Cleaning Protocols (volleyballs & equipment)
- Occupancy Limits
- Directional Signage
- COVID 19 Education & Infection Prevention
- Screening Measures (prohibiting participation):
- Symptoms
- International Travel
- Self Isolation Direction
- All staff will be trained on monitoring participants to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
- All participants must notify the Program Manager if they have been subsequently diagnosed with COVID 19 within 14 days of participating in a volleyball activity.
- Participant details will be recorded and retained for contact tracing.
DEVELOPMENT
- Pallavolo Sports will continually monitor the success of the Safety Plan.
- Pallavolo Sports will progress their Safety Plan in alignment with Volleyball Canada, Volleyball BC, and viaSport expansion.
- Pallavolo Sports will conduct weekly risk assessments to ensure that risk mitigation is accurate.
- All concerns can be directed to the Program Coordinator to forward to the Program Manager.
- The Program Manager will seek guidance from Interior Health or WorkSafe BC when necessary.
RESUMPTION OF OPERATIONS
· All staff (new & returning) will be required to complete online training.
