Greg Poitras

Lead Coach


Coach Greg has years of experience both playing and coaching a high level of volleyball. He played competitively for UBC Vancouver and advanced his professional career as an assistant coach at Gonzaga University NCAA Div 1 and also at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The majority of his coaching career was spent at UBCO as the dedicated Head Coach of the Men's Volleyball team for 10 years. In that time, he completed a Master's degree in Coaching Studies and also obtained his Level 4 NCCP credentials. As the Lead Coach and founder of Volo, he develops the programs to personally match the current technical skills of volleyball through repetition and retention. His level of experience and knowledge has helped many athletes achieve their athletic goals. SPORTS!

Sara MCCreary

Coach

Coach Sara currently plays for the UBCO Women's Heat Volleyball team and has a wealth of playing experience beginning in her High School years where she fell in love with the game. She competed at the Provincial and National level where she gained recognition and a position on the Heat. Not only does she train, but she also finds the time to coach youth at the club level. You may have seen her coaching with KVC and the Jr. Heat. Now, you'll see her on the courts with Volo. Over the course of her volleyball career, she has been recognized for many prestigious awards including Provincial and National All-Star Awards and the Mikasa Achievement Award. She is amazing and Volo is honoured to have her join the crew.

Mike Gauthier

Coach

Coach Mike has been seen playing on a volleyball court for 20+ years now. Professionally, he has worked with the RCMP for the last 12 years and transferred to Kelowna back in 2018. He has a lot of experience coaching in the community where he resides. In 2014-2017, he coached the Senior girls' team at Pemberton Secondary. More recently, he has been involved with coaching the OKM Junior A Girls team and the KVC 16U Boys team in the 2019-2021 year. In addition, he has pursued an Advanced Development Training Coach certificate and is in training for his Performance Coach certification. Mike coaches because he loves the game of volleyball and wants to help athletes achieve their goals on and off the court. His goal is to help develop honourable athletes with professionalism and respect. Respect for the game and for each other. Happy to have you onboard with Volo, Coach Mike!

Ty Baskin

Coach

Coach Ty plays for the UBCO Men's Heat Volleyball team. Growing up, he played for his school at RSS, KVC club, and even represented for Team BC Volleyball for 2 years. This led him to play for Capilano University where his team won a Bronze medal at the Pacwest Provincials and then he moved on to play for the UBCO Heat. He has been coaching in the community with the Jr. Heat programs and enjoys working with kids and developing his coaching skills. Ty was the Aboriginal Valedictorian at RSS, and the recipient of the Medicine Wheel District Award. He made the Dean's List at Capilano University and earned the esteemed Capilano University Scholastic Award. Looking forward to having you join us out on the court, Ty!

Michele Rauter

Coach

Coach Michele has been travelling the world playing volleyball! Her love for volleyball began in High school where she represented Argyle Secondary in North Vancouver. She then continued to play for the University of Wyoming which led her to international volleyball where she played indoor in Finland, Germany, and Switzerland. Not only did she play indoor in Europe, but she also played beach volleyball in Canada, United States, and Mexico. Her experience and love for the game transferred over to coaching where she coached High school volleyball at Argyle and LFA Secondary and then with the University of Wyoming and Minnesota running camps. Michele has also been involved in coaching club volleyball with BCO and Honduras. Some great moments have been running Volleytours adult beach camps in Spain, but her biggest achievement was leading the Honduras Women's beach team to victory 2 seasons in a row! Volo is proud to have Michele join the team.

Chad hunter

Coach

Coach Chad has an extensive volleyball career playing for 20+ years. His career began as a Junior at MBSS in West Kelowna. Go Bears! He then continued to play in college for the then OUC Lakers, now HEAT. A very versatile player, he progressed through RS, Middle, and LS positions in the 3 years he played for the Lakers earning himself MVP and Team All-Star Awards before moving to Toronto to pursue a professional career in aviation. But he didn't stop playing, while in Toronto, he played against many top-quality university players including those playing pro in European Leagues. From Men's 2s on the beach, Co-ed on grass, and Men's competitive indoor, Chad has a wealth of experience to share. Most recently, he has returned to Kelowna and is involved in coaching with Volo. He is looking forward to helping young athletes excel and having a ton of fun while doing it. VOLO ON 2!!

Jenn Olynyk

Coach

Coach Jenn grew up on the volleyball court and has been coaching both boys and girls since 2006. She has coached the last 6 years in Kelowna for the Mt. Boucherie Bears, KSS Owls, KVC and the Barn Owls volleyball club. Jenn also spent a season with the TRU Men’s Wolfpack volleyball team as their athletic trainer. She currently works as a physiotherapist at Threesixty Physiotherapy in Kelowna.
