CoVSA Community seminar series
CoVSA Community seminar series
Online seminar 19 October 2026
Speaker: Dr. David Fee
Dear colleagues,
We are excited to invite you to our next CoVSA Community Meeting on 19 October 2026 at 4:00 PM GMT.
This meeting marks the start of two exciting new chapters for our community: we will launch the CoVSA Quarterly Seminar Series, with Dr. David Fee as our inaugural speaker, and reveal the location and plans for the 2027 CoVSA Seismoacoustics Workshop.
We hope you can join us for an hour of science, discussion, and a look ahead at what is coming for the CoVSA community.
Our new quarterly seminar series will bring together researchers working across volcano seismology, infrasound, acoustics, and hydroacoustics to share new science, methods, observations, and ideas.
Our goal is to create a regular forum for scientific exchange across disciplines, career stages, institutions, and geographical regions—and to provide a space where our community can learn from one another and spark new collaborations.
We are delighted to launch the series with:

Seismoacoustic observations and interpretation of the 2023 Shishaldin Volcano eruption sequence
In 2023, Shishaldin Volcano produced 13 explosive paroxysms over four months, generating a remarkable sequence of seismic, infrasonic, and atmospheric signals. David will take us through observations before, during, and after the eruptions—from precursory tremor detected months before the first eruption to short-term eruption forecasts, complex eruptive infrasound, and gravity waves used to estimate erupted mass.
The results provide new insights into the dynamics of basaltic explosive eruptions and demonstrate how combining seismic and acoustic observations can improve our understanding—and potentially our forecasting—of volcanic activity.
We have also been busy planning the 2027 CoVSA Seismoacoustics Workshop.
During the meeting, we will reveal the host location and initial program, and share our plans for bringing the community together for field-based learning, scientific exchange, and collaboration.
We won't spoil the surprise just yet—join us on 19 October for the reveal!
