In 2024, we set out on an impromptu road trip from Ramban to explore some of the most beautiful and lesser-known corners of the Himalayas—Gool, Daggan Top, and Ramakunda. With no planning, no fixed itinerary, just our curiosity and love for mountains, this journey turned out to be a perfect blend of adventure, exploration, and raw natural beauty.
Our route first took us through Ghoda Gali, a serene forested area where history and nature intertwine. Here, hidden among the trees, are ancient stone-carved scriptures depicting horses and warriors, etched into the rocks by unknown hands centuries ago. These carvings narrate tales of valor, horse-mounted warriors, and battles long past. Standing before them, it felt as if the echoes of history whispered through the forest, adding a mysterious and timeless aura to the journey. We spent time exploring the site, marveling at the artistry, and capturing the perfect blend of heritage and wilderness.
Next, we reached the Gool market, a vibrant little town nestled in the hills. The local sights, sounds, and warm hospitality offered a glimpse into everyday life in this part of Jammu & Kashmir, a charming pause amidst our mountain adventure.
The road then led us higher toward Daggan Top. The ride itself was mesmerizing—winding roads flanked by lush meadows, rivers, and forests. As we reached Daggan Top, we were greeted by vast green meadows, rolling hills, and panoramic mountain views that seemed to stretch endlessly. The freshness of the alpine air, the vivid greenery, and the peaceful silence made it a perfect spot to pause, take photos, and simply breathe in the Himalayas.
Our final destination was Ramakunda, accessible via a tough off-road path that tested our patience and riding skills. Every twist and turn was challenging, but the moment we reached the summit, all hardships melted away. Ramakunda is a true Himalayan heaven—huge, sprawling meadows surrounded by towering mountain chains. We spent hours wandering through the meadows, soaking in the serene beauty, and watching the sunset paint the mountains in golden hues, a moment of pure magic that only the high Himalayas can offer.
As we descended back toward Ramban, we carried with us memories of adventure, laughter, history, and nature’s grandeur. This road trip reminded us that sometimes, the best journeys are the unplanned ones, where every turn brings a new surprise, every stop tells a story, and every view feels like a dream.
