In this Lab, I Practiced creating random plots and using the select by attribute and location tool. Also, worked making map series for developing automate map pages. To complete the task, I used the area of interest (AOI) shape file, the shape file of Land Ownership, and roads file. In this process, In this process, I used ArcPro and the coordinate system, NAD 1983 UTM Zone 12N is used. the coordinate system, NAD 1983 UTM Zone 12N is used.
Create 1000 circular plots
Buffer all (10-meter diameter)
Select BLM agency land
Prioritize sites near roads <= speed limits
Create final random selection
Make map book
The analysis shows each location of 100 randomly selected buffers in BLM agency land. First, I created 1000 random site locations and create a 5-meter buffer around all points using the buffer tool. Second, I used an attribute tool to select all polygons where the owning agency is BLM and then used select by location tool to select buffers completely within BLM land. Third, I selected less than or equal to 45-speed limit roads by exploring the attribute table and then select BLM sites within 500-meters of selected roads by using select by location tool. Finally, I used the subset features tool and created 100 randomly selected subsets.
I could create the map book on ArcPro by this Lab. Most of the process is not too hard but selecting 500-meters of roads with speed limit less than or equal to 45 mph is not easy. I struggled with this issue because although the select by location tool was working the analysis results also showed success, the selection result showed 0 results. After several trials, I found the reason. I think one of the previous working processes was not finished because this task I conducted several select by attribute and location tools. Also, I made a big size layout, and this made slow the speed of making pdf files. Therefore, I will consider the size of the layout next time.
