A deep dive into the character creation process on VitalityRP, and how you can be prepared for the whitelisting process on Discord.
At VitalityRP, we're excited to have you join our server and embark on your role-playing adventure. To ensure a smooth and successful application process, please follow this guide carefully. We've outlined all the steps you need to take, from reading our Community Guidelines to submitting your application.
When crafting a character, the backstory serves as a crucial roadmap for the player's journey throughout the season. As they navigate through various situations and interactions, it can sometimes be challenging. There's a possibility that a player may react differently than their character would, clouding their judgment.
A robust backstory acts as a guiding light in such instances. It becomes a reference point for the player, reminding them of who their character is, their objectives, and their motives. This reference allows players to navigate difficult role-playing scenarios by aligning with their character's essence and deciding how best to act or react.
This emphasis on well-thought-out backstories is rooted in the belief that a solid foundation enhances the player's experience. When evaluating a player's backstory, consider whether it provides enough information to serve as a reliable roadmap throughout their RP season. This approach ensures a richer and more immersive storytelling experience for all involved. Take a moment to read though this step-by-step guide to help you understand what we are looking for with your application.
Step 1: Familiarize Yourself with Community Guidelines and Rules of Play
Before applying, it's crucial to understand the rules and expectations of our community. This will help you determine if VitalityRP is the right fit for your style of gameplay. Here you can find our Community Guidelines and Rules of Play.
Step 2: Prepare for Your Whitelist Application
To join our server, all players are required to submit a whitelist application. While it's possible to roll a previously created character, please note that any character from a previous season will be starting a new story in Season 3.
Here's what you'll need to prepare for your whitelist application:

Select "Account Details," and your Steam ID (17 digit number) will be displayed under your Steam name.

What is their profession, and how did they learn it?
Why have they come to this land?
How did they get here?
What do they hope to accomplish in these lands?

Fill out all parts of the application, the backstory portion of your application, Part 5, must be submitted as a Google Doc with general access set to “anyone with the link”. When you are happy with your application click submit.
If you have any questions, feel free to ping a @Staff Member in the Discord outsider-chat for assistance.
Important Note:
Before any member of the group submits a whitelist application, the group must determine and confirm the final number of players in the starting group.
Step 4: Review and Wait
After clicking "Submit," a Discord ticket will be opened for your application. A staff member will review your application and work with you in the ticket. Please feel free to ask any questions you have in the ticket during whitelisting.
We can't wait to hear about your character and welcome you into the exciting world of VitalityRP. Good luck with your whitelist application, and we look forward to adventuring with you soon!
Addressing these questions when crafting a character's backstory is important because it adds depth, nuance, and realism to the character. A well-developed character with a thought-out backstory is more engaging and relatable, both for the person playing the character and for those interacting with the character in a roleplaying setting. Here's why each set of questions is significant:
Question 1: Who is your Character?
Personality and Decision-Making:
Importance: Understanding the character's personality helps in predicting how they would respond to various situations, making their actions and decisions more consistent and believable.
What defines their personality in the backstory?
How does their past experiences influence their decision-making?
How were they affected by their upbringing?
Mood, Humor, Coping Mechanisms:
Importance: Knowing the character's mood, sense of humor, and coping mechanisms adds emotional depth, making the character more three-dimensional and relatable.
How would you describe your character's typical mood?
What kind of humor resonates with them, and why?
How do they handle challenges in life?
Likes, Dislikes, Fears:
Importance: Knowing the character's preferences and fears adds layers to their personality and helps in creating situations that resonate emotionally with the character.
What do they like or dislike?
What is their greatest fear, and is there a specific event from their past that contributed to this fear?
How do they typically confront or avoid the things they fear?
Question 2: Where are they from?
Origin and Environment:
Importance: The character's place of origin influences their worldview and perspective. It helps establish cultural context and shapes their beliefs and attitudes.
What role did their environment play in shaping their worldview?
How do they view the customs and traditions of their place of origin?
Describe a typical day in their hometown or environment.
Question 3: What was their upbringing?
Caregivers and Family Dynamics:
Importance: Relationships with caregivers and family dynamics contribute to character motivation and can be a source of conflict or support throughout the roleplaying experience.
Who raised them, and what is considered a normal family unit in their culture?
Where are their caregivers now, and how does the character feel about them?
Identity Formation:
Importance: Understanding who the character became as a result of their past experiences adds complexity and realism, making the character more interesting and dynamic.
How has their past shaped the person they are today?
Are there pivotal moments that molded their identity?
Upbringing and Influences:
Importance: The character's upbringing shapes their values, beliefs, and behavior. Exploring these aspects provides insight into their motivations and helps establish a coherent character arc.
How do they feel about those who played a significant role in their early life?
What role models or influences shaped the person they've become?
Are there any regrets or moments they wish they could change in their past?
Question 4: What is their profession, and how did they learn it?
Profession and Skills:
Importance: The character's profession and skills provide insight into their daily life, socioeconomic status, and how they contribute to the world. It also influences their interactions with others.
How did they acquire their skills or trade?
Why did they choose their current profession or lifestyle?
Have they faced any significant challenges or setbacks in their career or skill development?
Did they have a mentor or teacher who guided them in their chosen path?
If they live off the land, what does that lifestyle entail?
Question 5: Why have they come to this land?
Motivation for Migration:
Importance: Understanding why the character left their previous home and how they feel about the new place sets the stage for their current circumstances and goals.
What specific event or circumstance prompted them to leave their previous home?
How do they feel about leaving, and what are their expectations for the new land?
Did they leave on good terms with anyone in their previous community?
Question 6: How did they get here?
Travel and Arrival:
Importance: Describing the journey and the means of arrival adds realism and context to the character's current situation, impacting their initial impressions and interactions in the new setting.
What was their motivation for making this journey?
What do they hope to accomplish in these lands?
Were there any memorable or challenging experiences during their journey?
How did the journey impact their perception of the new land?
Question 7: What do they hope to accomplish in these lands?
Goals and Dreams:
Importance: Knowing the character's aspirations provides a sense of direction and purpose. It shapes their motivations and can be a driving force for their actions in the roleplaying narrative.
Are their goals short-term or long-term, and how do they prioritize them?
Do they have specific hopes and dreams, and do they consider them realistic?
Have they shared their aspirations with others, or are they keeping them a secret?
In summary, these questions collectively contribute to a rich and multi-dimensional character, making the roleplaying experience more immersive and engaging for both the player and others involved in the narrative.
Interested in rerolling your character? Here's what you need to know:
Rerolling your character follows the same process as whitelisting. Just head on over to Discord and open a new Whitelisting Application.
When you wish to reroll, please provide the old character whitelist information and then fill out the template above for your new character whitelist request.
If your character has been in active conflict with another character within the last week or two, it is suggested for the involved parties to make a ticket to alert staff of the RP within 24 hours. During this 24-hour period, a ruling will be made on the attesting ticket. Conflict needs to be resolved or actively pursued within (7) seven days prior to the ticket creation, with screenshot backups.
Important Note: You may only re-roll your character twice in a season, so make your choices wisely.
Warning:
Rerolling your character will result in the loss of your settlement rank, level, engrams, personal tames, structures, etc. While you can roleplay being added back into your tribe, admins will not force you into your tribe, especially if you are playing solo.
You've familiarized yourself with the rules, crafted your character, and everything is in order. So, what's next? It's time to submit your application, of course!
