There is always a five-year-old that is slamming away Beethoven better than you can after playing for fifteen years, and that pushed me away from considering myself a pianist, then I realized it is more about the discipline than the skill set. I have been playing piano since I was around 5 years old. My mom was super interested in having me classically trained which is something that I really came to enjoy. Every year I would go to nursing homes to play Christmas songs, and I believe that it once you start sharing your talent with the world is when one can be considered a pianist.Â
If you ever want to kill your self-worth, watch little big shots. This is a piano prodigy that crushed my dreams named Evan Le. He was (and still is) super talented and is recognized as one of the youngest pianists of all time. Though I think we all wish we could play like him, it does not take that level of skill to adopt this title. To be a pianist like Evan, all that is needed is a platform to share talent, a love for the instrument, and people to watch you play.
