Is Community Gardening For You?
Time commitment - plan on spending 15 hours a month tending your plot. Sometimes more, depending on what you are growing, use of soaker hose, and use of weed block. The garden season starts in May and goes until November 1, can go earlier or later if you grow cool-season crops.
In addition to tending your plot:
Gardeners are expected to contribute at least 2 hours of service to the maintenance of the community garden space over and above the care of their plot.
All Denver Urban Gardens are organic, so gardeners must garden without using herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. No Round-Up, No Sevin, No Miracle Grow.
As part of their plot care, gardeners are responsible for maintaining the paths around their plot and keeping them clear of weeds and debris.
Unlike a backyard garden, water may not be left running unattended or set up on a timer, so gardeners must plan to be on-site while watering.
Gardeners are responsible for checking email/Facebook for regular updates, working collaboratively with a variety of people for the benefit of the garden, and fulfilling the terms of their garden agreement.
A community garden is not just a garden within your community; it is a community in and of itself, with the rights and responsibilities for members.
If you think community gardening sounds like a fit for you, we’d love to welcome you! Please fill out the waitlist interest form below and we'll be in touch when we have plot availability.
