Preliminary List of Exhibits
Breakdown of Exhibits
We'd like to share with you a preliminary list of exhibits at the 2024 Fair to give you an idea of the types and the relative number of projects that were featured.
The "Preliminary Breakdown of Exhibits at 2024 Fair" table illustrates how exhibits varied by level and category.
The 2024 Preliminary List of Exhibits can be found at this link.
Keep in mind that this list and the breakdown of exhibits are subject to change before judging begins on April 8. Some exhibits will drop off, and others may be added and possibly assigned to you after you make your selections.
Please look it over and highlight for yourself the top exhibits you would like to judge. Please note: We have some recent developments in our virtual fair:
The Tri-County Science & Technology Fair strives to assign a minimum of three judges per exhibit across all grade levels. But when a category within a grade level may attract more than the minimum number of judges needed, the fair’s organizers reserve the right to assign more than three judges per exhibit to all exhibits equally within that category and grade level.
This form allows you to select at one grade level only up to 7 exhibits at Middle School OR at High School to judge on a first-come, first served basis, depending on which exhibits still remain unassigned to the maximum allowed number of judges per exhibit. You may select exhibits in solely one or across more than one category.
However, the number of available slots from which to select exhibits depends on the number of exhibits registered in that category vs. the number of confirmed judges who have selected that category. Consequently, some categories will offer only three slots per exhibit, while others may have as many as seven.
We have a significant number of exhibits registered in the categories of Biology, Environment, and Medicine and Medical Science & Technology, at the High School level yet not enough judges who have expressed interest in evaluating exhibits from these categories. Please select some exhibits in these areas if you feel comfortable with evaluating them based on your technical expertise and background.
Because very few Elementary School exhibits have registered, we are assigning all these exhibits only to judges who cannot judge any other level because of potential conflict-of-interest and then to judges who have expressed an interest in judging at the Elementary School level.
The list is divided first by level (Elementary, Middle, and High School) and then by category within each level.
Each exhibit has an exhibit number -- remember which ones you would like to judge!
You have the option for a limited time to pre-select up to 7 online exhibits to judge across multiple categories if desired but only in one grade level Middle or High School) on a first-come, first served basis, depending on which of your selections still remain unassigned.
You will have from April 1 at 8:00 AM to April 5 at 6:00 PM EDT to select exhibits. The earlier you access the Exhibit Selection Form, the more likely you get to judge the exhibits of your choice.
But there still is no guarantee you will get to judge your top picks! Not all levels and categories have a comparable number of exhibits, as you can see from the table above. Please have some alternate choices ready when you make your selections online.
Also, please steer clear of any exhibit that potentially poses a conflict-of-interest for you.
Levels and Categories of Exhibits
When attempting to select exhibits online, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE BREAKDOWN OF THE PRELIMINARY LIST OF EXHIBITS!! We have no control over the number of exhibits that register in each category. It is entirely possible that the category that you prefer may not have enough exhibits for all the judges who selected them.
Therefore, you may have very few if any of the exhibits you selected assigned to you. For example, categories like Physics on the HS level typically have far fewer exhibits than Health/Medicine or Psychology. PLEASE plan to have alternate choices at a different level or different categories!
If you choose to no longer judge because there are not enough exhibits in your category (and level) of choice, PLEASE contact the Judges' Committee as soon as possible at Judges@DiscoveryCtr.org or 845-621-1260 x-402.
Some Categories May Still Lack Enough Judges
A recurring issue for us is that we have many more Psychology, Environment, and Medicine exhibits than judges who sign up for them. If possible, please try to select some Psychology, Environment, and/or Medicine exhibits at the HS level if you feel you have the expertise and are comfortable doing so.
The Exhibit Selection Form will indicate the number of slots remaining for any exhibit that has not yet been selected by three judges. Try to add two or three among the remaining Psychology, Environment, and/or Medicine exhibits along with your primary selections based on your expertise. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Have You Completed Reviewing Your Orientation Materials?
Whether you are a novice that never judged any other fair, or an experienced judge who is a newcomer to our fair, or a returning judge well-acquainted with our fair, we urge you to look over all the information on this website! Needless to say, given the switch to a "virtual" fair setting, we have made a number of changes to this year's fair compared with previous years, you should review the material we have compiled to help you become more effective in judging exhibits.
If you have completed reading the Rubric and reviewing the Preliminary List of Exhibits , you now have the option of selecting exhibits, which will be assigned to you to evaluate between
April 1, 8:00 AM to April 5, 6:00 PM EDT.
When you are ready to make your choices, please read the instructions at the Selecting Exhibits link in the menu to the top or the link below.
