Awards are given to students in the categories of

Elementary School:
Awards to all participants for either Excellent or Outstanding Achievement
Top Elementary School with the highest overall average score and with at least three exhibits in the fair is given the Janice Miller Newman Education Award for Excellence in Developing Future Scientists
Middle School:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place within each category. To qualify for 3rd place, the exhibit's score must average at least 80 out of 100. A second place award is given to an exhibit that scores no less than an average of 85, while a 1st place exhibit must attain at least an average of 90. That means it's entirely possible we might not give out a 1st or 2nd place award if none of the exhibits in that category scores above the minimum required
Between the top 10-20% highest-scoring exhibits only from 6th through 8th grades receive medals as alternates to the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.
Top 10% highest-scoring exhibits only from 6th through 8th grades advance as nominees to the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.
Top-scoring exhibit among all Middle School entries is given the prestigious Judge Edith Miller Excellence Award
Top Middle School with the highest overall average score and with at least three exhibits in the fair is given the Susan Schaell Handelman Award for Scholastic Excellence in Science & Technology
High School:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place within each category. To qualify for 3rd place, the exhibit's score must average at least 80 out of 100. A second place award is given to an exhibit that scores no less than an average of 85, while a 1st place exhibit must attain at least an average of 90. Top four highest-scoring exhibits among all High School entries advance to the NYS Science Congress competition
Top-scoring exhibit among all High School entries is given the prestigious Marilyn Reiner Science in Education Award
Top High School with the highest overall average score and with at least three exhibits in the fair is given the Frank Iacopelli Award for Academic Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
