Millions of students from around the world have transitioned to online learning. But with new platforms come new rules and dynamics. Education professional Victor Restis shares this guide to online learning netiquette for students and teachers.
Be polite
With most communication being conducted online, sometimes it's easy to forget that an online classroom is still a formal setting that requires decorum. Politeness can be expressed not just in verbal or written ways but also in how a person conducts himself or herself online. Wearing appropriate clothing, muting one's device when not being asked to speak, paying attention to the lecturer or speaker, and joining the session on time are some of the ways students and teachers can be respectful during online classes.
Maintain correct spelling and grammar
Victor Restis shares that people have been so used to informal language online that they become unconscious of this during online classes. Teachers and students should do their best to observe correct spelling and grammar even if the discussion is becoming more casual. Doing this will allow everyone in the classroom to better understand the points being made during the session. This will also help everyone think before they speak or type.
Be understanding
The transition to online learning hasn't been easy for everyone. Victor Restis shares that this is why everyone should be more understanding towards their professors, teachers, and press especially during this time. Gadgets and connections might not always work well during sessions and various interruptions might occur. With all these things, being gracious when things go wrong during the session will be truly appreciated.
