SEQUENTIAL ART & COMIC PAGES
THURSDAYS 10:00 - 11:15
Assignment 1:
In this class, you will be conceiving on paper and creating in 3d characters. You'll be inventing an environment and a scenario for your characters to be a part of. For your first assignment, you are to sketch out two characters: a main character and a friend or foe. You need to write a short description about each. Name your characters and decide on an environment: whatever century, location, etc. helps define the character's environment.
For bonus points (for grades) bring to class other drawings or email me images of any type of creative work you have created. For those of you who are writers, share with me some writing you have accomplished. Email images of this work (art and writing) to me at vkennedy@artiosacademies.com.
Looking Ahead at Assignment 2:
You will share some information about yourself and begin the process of planning your path for this class. Write a short story about yourself. It can be fictitious or about something that really happened. Make simple sketches to illustrate the three main points in the story. Don't draw elaborately. Just sketch out your thoughts with rough sketches. You are going to continue working on this later and you will have time to refine your drawings.

Introduction to the class:
This class needs young creatives like you who enjoy storytelling, who are willing to indulge in humor and clever scenarios and work well together as well as independently building characters that are human, animal or outrageously fictional beings. Whether you are the class drama queen, the King of Comedy or an illusive wallflower, you have a place in this visual storytelling class waiting for you to illuminate the artistry and authorship inside you that’s itching to come out! You’ll also have the chance to learn some new skills as a comic book staff member like lettering or inking and you’ll also be able to work as an animation studio sculptor building a clay maquette (scaled sculpture) of your O.C. (Original character) from your storyboard. Lastly, your articulation will shine through your composition skills and illustrations as you work to complete colorful comics pages due to be published online! Too much creativity for one class? Let’s get cranking and see!
3d & Story Development:
CREATURE CREATION & VISUAL STORYTELLING
THURSDAYS 1:00 - 2:00
Assignment 1:
Start sketching your greatest idea for a couple of characters: a lead-role character and some other supporting character. At least one of them has to be some sort of creature. Your creature character may be part human, alien, prehistoric, monster (the kid-friendly kind of monster especially if it has a humorous appeal), insect or animal. For this first assignment, you are to sketch as many ideas on a couple of sheets of paper as you can. You don't have to spend more than 30 mins. We will work more on these in class.
For bonus points (for grades) bring to class other drawings or email me images of any type of creative work you have created. For those of you who are writers, share with me some writing you have accomplished. Email this work (art and writing) to me at vkennedy@artiosacademies.com.

Introduction to the class:
Calling all young creatives who want to build a 3 dimensional representation of their wildest story character idea! You know that super hero concept you came up with? And you,.. what about that cool robot you designed last year on the computer? Oh, and you,.. remember that amazing description of that angelic being that controlled the weather and saved the whales in that short story you wrote? And that comical alien that you came up with in your comic you drew this summer! Oh, but you, and you, and you haven’t come up with an idea yet? That’s fine because we can work together on it. Everybody’s imagination is welcome here! This class wants thinkers and doers, master builders, sketch artists, storytellers, puppetry arts enthusiasts, people with an eye for color and design and those of you who want to take a great idea on paper and work to make it come to life bigger and better! In this class, you’ll make sketches, learn some things about movie practical effects, explore character design and get out of your seat and work together as a creative team and work independently on constructing a very cool creature. In Fall semester, students will work on their individual prototype of their creature. (Nothing of the creepy horror genre.) We will have a contest and show off your amazing ideas. Two winners for best designs will be chosen for the Onomato Creature awards and when we come back for Winter/Spring semester, two teams will build a larger scale model for a final showdown. Start sketching!
