Mr. Kennedy's Role As An Advisor
Mr. Kennedy's Role As An Advisor
At Artios I might be your student's official art advisor whether it is specifically for a competition like BJU's High School Festival or some other event like CITA. Each of my students should know that I want to help them succeed in the classroom and in investments like competitions and shows.
I have helped art students bring home awards from SCAD (animation maquette building), Bob Jones University (drawing, painting, etc.) and CITA (set design and model crafting).
I encourage students to try and attend any of the great opportunities at BJU in Greenville, SC- only 2 hours away- and let me help them all I can with preparing for competitions and social media and community involvement.
Once a student of mine, always my fellow artist.

PORTFOLIO BUILDER WORKSHOP
CONSTRUCTING YOUR PORTFOLIO &
WRITING AN ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Pinwheel Creative Studios / VICTOR KENNEDY
What is an artist’s statement?
An artists statement is a well-written brief statement about you as an artist and your aspirations for pursuing art. In college, you can write a statement that can be included with your resume, to use in finding a job. An artist's statement is good to have on your online portfolio as part of your profile.
What is an artist’s portfolio?
A scrutinized, carefully selected collection of your best artwork that you have created that exemplifies to others your mastery of skill and understanding of essential artistic processes and personal creative expression. To show you can draw people is a must.
Your collection is best presented as a book, or portfolio, containing some original pieces that fit practically into this physical book but might mostly consist of good reproductions of the original pieces that otherwise just won’t fit in your portfolio. For instance, a 3-D model or a large painting. For these pieces, you need to have made a good photo of each piece and have produced a good color copy printed and used in the original’s place. It is essential to enlist the help of a photographer to take professional quality photographs of your art. Proper lighting makes a world of difference in how your art is portrayed. Cell phones can make your picture turn out yellow in the wrong light. Your portfolio is used to display your skills to a potential college representative like the Dean of the art department. You want your images to be of the best quality. Once in college, you will start working on a college graduate portfolio, re-creating or updating your entries and rebuilding your collection to use in which to get a job.
Every senior art student who is shopping for a college at which to pursue art needs a well-built portfolio and to go along with it, an artist’s statement. The Portfolio Builder Program will supplement the student’s art studies as Mr. Kennedy will assist you in selecting, creating, finishing, and arranging your art into an effective set of “best work”, or portfolio, that represents you as an aspiring artist who is serious about this endeavor. All of Mr. Kennedy’s senior art students are encouraged to participate in the Portfolio Builder Project. It would be good for serious-minded Jrs. to participate in this in order to get a leg up on next year. And beneficial for the proficient 10th grader to start getting ready to preserve their best work. The senior art student who is qualified to graduate with a major in an art program like the one Artios Academies should be preparing an end-of-the-year senior presentation portfolio possibly with a table display where it may be displayed. (It could be a video digital display loop.) See your school’s information for details on graduation requirements. This should not dissuade any senior art student who does not have the credits needed to graduate in a graduate program to take part in the Portfolio Builder Program. If you are planning to go to college, it’s is important to have your portfolio ready to show prospective college representatives. If you would like more information on writing an Artist's Statement or need help building your portfolio, let Mr. Kennedy know and he will send you the information. artclass@charter.net
