During the founding of Versmark, a decision was made to elect the first monarch. From the founders of the nation, Wald Friedli was selected by a near unanimous nomination of the people to serve as monarch. 

Wald accepted the position and took the title of Sovereign after some deliberation. During his draft of the constitution, it was decided to make the elective monarchy into law for any further Sovereign's. In addition, the nobility was established, with the Sovereign being the chief title, and through the nobility comes the monarch's representation in Parliament in the form of the House of Lords.
