Before the introduction of the electric gantry crane in the yard it currently occupies between 1910 and 1922, the Gilson Mill occupied the space between the Baxter Mill and at the north end of the gantry crane and the office buildings and old mills to the south. The Gilson Mill was a building made up of three parts, with the center made of stone and each end built of wood.
To learn more about how difficult-to-identify nonexisting buildings like the Old Gilson Mill can be determined using archival photographs and material, see Process.
