At the north end of the gantry crane is a collection of buildings surrounding the area that was once the Baxter Mill run by the Rutland Marble Co. before it was purchased by the Vermont Marble Co. This mill was partially torn down between 1915 and 1922; the machine shop on its northern end remaining while the area that was a saw mill became the site of the Carpentry Shop and lumber shed that currently exists on the site.
In 1931, construction began for the long gangsaw mill beside the gantry crane and was followed by an additional power house cattycorner to the one found at the north end of the crane. By the 1960s, the machine shop had been torn down and the old car house was in ruins: the latter of which is no longer visible at all.
The carpenter's shop and the storage pavilion next to it occupy what was once the footprint of the Baxter Mill.
In the last 20 years, a half-section has been added to the west side of the stone Boiler Shop.
The Locomotive House is stone with a brick interior and currently houses what remains of some Patch-Wegner stone cutting equipment.
