A Moment for Membership
Dear Sisters,
Happy New Year! We’ve just had a season of celebration and giving.I know you put thought into each gift you gave to loved ones last December. And I hope you received something special too.
There are many gifts we receive from our membership in Alpha Delta Kappa all through the year. When asked to name one particular gift, many sisters say the fellowship between and among members ranks highest. When I’m with my Alpha Delta Kappa sisters, I feel respected and valued. I feel a bond with them that goes deep. That’s because of the support I get from them. Are there women in education that you know would benefit from the fellowship of Alpha Delta Kappa?
Please consider who you might like to see become a member. The 2021 Membership Campaign starts at the first of the year and concludes on April 30th . We know it’s hard right now to invite prospective members to
meetings when we’re all sitting at home looking through a screen. But by April many of us will have received a vaccine and perhaps we will be able to meet in person.
Until then, I send my best wishes for all of you to stay safe.
Yours,
Lorrie Richland

Ladies - HOT OFF THE PRESS!!! I am attaching the Membership Campaign Flyer for 2021. Please delete and destroy any others. This has been updated to reflect how we are to work with any new members. Please forward this immediately to ALL of your chapters. Also attached is the H-151 form that is to be used by all chapters for any prospective new member recommendations. Please forward this also to all your chapters.
Now, as I said during our training, the online document that we are all training with is a LIVING document...meaning changes and updates will be ongoing. I have just received some newly updated information to share with you so that when you do your chapter training, you will be able to inform them. Hopefully, there won't be many more to follow. So, here goes.
Members are able to use a debit card, however, it is not considered secure on this form, so of course Pay Pal or Credit Card are the best forms of payment.
A person can go onto the web and complete the first part of the form and then return with the credit card AFTER the initiation ceremony and complete the form and hit submit. The first part of the form will save on the web for 72 hours, only.
Both of the Membership Campaign flyer and the H-151 are suppose to be uploaded soon on to the website. As for YOUR SMC Report...odd year...it still is NOT uploaded. Patience is a virtue or so my mother always told me....
You are all troopers and I am so happy to work with each of you. As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I would suggest you print this email out and have it at your fingertips for your training as well.
New Member Process:
Although there is no set schedule for the process from a guest's first visit to her initiation, It's a good idea to do it in a timely manner, so as to capture the enthusiasm of the prospective member.
1. Make sure you know the requirements for membership. Briefly, these are that current teachers and administrators must be employed and under contract in teaching, administration, or a specialized field of education, and that the prospective member has met the requirements for certification in teaching, administration or a specialized field. For retired teachers or administrators, they must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in education OR met the requirements for certification in teaching, administration or specialized field AND show a genuine interest and active involvement in the current educational process.
2. Encourage prospective members to attend regular chapter meetings.
3. Make sure form H-151, which is available on the International website, is completed. One sponsoring member and two active members are needed to endorse the prospective member.
4. The Chapter Membership Chair requests an agenda item for the next meeting to discuss the qualification of the prospective member and consider the invitation for membership.
5. A vote is conducted by ballot and recorded in the chapter minutes. A unanimous vote to invite the prospective new member is required.
6.The sponsoring member should have a personal conversation with the prospective member on the benefits and requirements for membership.
7. Directly after initiation, the new member and her sponsor should complete the registration and payment of International dues through the International website. There is no registration fee for new members. State and chapter dues may be paid separately.
