For thirty plus years, Alpha Chapter of VT ADK has organized a Giving Tree, soliciting holiday gifts for local families in need. Our Central Vermont school nurses suggest families; parents of those families identify specific needs. Tags are written for each child with general suggestions. As usual, over 100 tags were placed on the tree in the lobby of the Capital Plaza Hotel in Montpelier.
The Beta chapter supports the following scholarships and altruistic activities.
$500 Alicia Shanks scholarship for high school senior pursuing education degree
Members voted to send a holiday donation to our treasurer in the amount they might normally spend at the Pound Auction. Funds from our "Pound Auction" supported donations to the Lund Home and the Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network (CASAN) of which our Beta Sister, Delia Clark, is a member.
Beta chapter's Caring Circle has been well received by our teachers who are actively teaching.
The Delta chapter supports the following scholarships and altruistic activities.
Tatem's Totes, which supports children in foster care providing backpacks with needed items . The chapter also supports the Santa Claus program providing gifts for children during the holiday season.
International Altruism
At the International level, Alpha Delta Kappa reaches out to others in two significant ways. First, through its International altruistic projects, it has contributed more than $2 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; and in 2013 International Convention delegates chose Alzheimer's Association as its second International altruistic project. Secondly, Alpha Delta Kappa biennially awards more than a $250,000 through its scholarships and grants programs. The many lives these scholarships and grants have enriched are testimony to the collective efforts of Alpha Delta Kappa.
