It is a legislative requirement for anyone undertaking the duties of a teacher in a Victorian school or early childhood setting to be registered with VIT. This includes teaching under supervision.
Some applicants might have different specialisations and are in different stages of their teaching journeys. Other applicants may have obtained their initial teaching qualifications overseas. Whichever your circumstances are, with an initial teaching qualification complying with VIT requirements, the type of initial registration you gain is 'Provisional'. See https://www.vit.vic.edu.au/
To register as a teacher, applicants for 'provisional registration' needed to have completed qualifications that meet national standards. In the case of overseas qualifications from a non-English speaking country, these need to be assessed and deemed as equivalent by the VIT.
Moving to 'full registration involves the completion of the PRT and undertake rigorous suitability assessments in order to obtain registration. The VIT ensures that regular professional learning and suitability assessment continues throughout a teacher’s career.
