Silent Piece (2024) is a psychological horror/ experimental short film written and directed by me.
The short film is structured around the 'unknown' and the restless yet fascinating 'imaginations'. For me, horror is an idea/ a sense that is created by inner fear and unknown imagery made up by thoughts.
The visual style is highly inspired by the early 2000s Japan horror video games, especially Siren/ Forbidden Siren (2003) - Jump cuts and glitchiness as signs to convey the idea of horror and danger. At the same time, I want to revise on my home's visual storytelling techniques - the cinema of Hong Kong horror, thereby use of the vibrant yellow and gloomy green.

Silent Piece
Silent Piece is by far, my riskiest and challenging project. It was taken place in Hong Kong, and I made myself holding lots of responsibilities.
I am an international student study in the UK, so it is no wonder I have recruit lots of friends and family members to join my production crew when I was trying to make a short film in Hong Kong.
The underline reason I chose to film a horror short film in Hong Kong or using Cantonese is because I know my home by heart.
I've heard a lot of scary ghost stories ever since I was a little kid, and I was thinking why not? Why not bring those stories and myths to an international table while applying what I have learnt from University.
I see this project as a way to show and enhance my skills in depicting a convincing, entertaining, thrilling believable yet mythical story from old Hong Kong.
