You wake up in a foreign place, with one goal, to get the hell out of there and save your brother. It has been years since your parents left without a trace, and now their past is back to haunt you. Will you have what it takes to break free?
JANET is a high-octane first-person point-of-view action film that takes you into the world of deception and survival. Get ready to fight.
This film is about the fight for freedom and family through the eyes of Janet. Inspired by Ilya Naishuller’s Hardcore Henry and my passion for screen combat, I created this project to give my friends and me the chance to create the kind of action we’ve long admired.
I’ve often had nightmares where I’m attacked and powerless. This film became a way to flip that script and to imagine what it feels like to fight back and win. I wanted the first-person POV to feel intense and personal, like the audience is right there in Janet’s shoes.
Because of that perspective, I think the film reflects people’s own ideas, fears, and hopes. I want the audience to feel the tension, the fight, and the strength to keep going. I hope they leave feeling empowered, like they, too, can break free.
This is the first time I ever worked on a first person pov short film and the experience is extremely valuable and incredible for me. Felicia has always surprised me of how creative she is in problem-solving, attaching a go-pro camera to a motorcycle helmets, using sugar-glass bottles for filming, rehearsing fighting choreographies with actors. I have learnt so much from her.
To be honest, we've only got around 2 to 3 months on planning such short film, to schedule what I feel like endless meetings to discuss details, budgets, running a fundme page which met the target we set, arrange how to store equipments and organise food, people, call sheets... to make sure the filming run smoothly is not easy especially a lot of locations are involved, so much lighting to be tested out as we hope the director can achieve what she wants in this special project.
I am really proud of how Janet turns out - being selected by a few film festivals. The cinematic experience is exceptional and I do feel nervous during the fighting scene. I am super grateful for the opportunities to collaborate with Felicia, and our crew! We are for sure an amazing team.
