Crowd Control at Biligiri Ranganaswamy Temple of BRT Tiger reserve on April 24th and 25th 2013

Crowd regulation during Dodda Jathre at BRT Range of BRT Tiger Reserve

Dodda Jathre is the annual festival taking place at Biligiri Ranathaswamy Temple in the Biligiri Rangaswamy Tiger Reserve. This festival attracts a large number of piligrims visiting from all over Chamarajnagar district.

Vana Jagruthi team is taking up the crowd control activity during Dodda Jathre for the first time. The objective is to regulate piligrims and tourists to mitigate the effects on wildlife such as, fire control, plastic pollution control, tourist movement inside the parts of reserve off-limit to general public etc., We will also be determining from this activity the impact from the Jathre on the Reserve, number of people visiting during the festival to further tailor this activity for the next year.

Activities: We would be performing the following activities.

· We would be checking every vehicle entering the check post and request them not to litter plastic items

· Manning the road leading to temple to stop people from littering and trespassing into the forests

· Manning the temple premises and surroundings to stop people from using firewood and trespassing into forests. Also to control littering.

· Maintaining vigil at possible vantage points to spot fire if happens and extinguish at as soon as possible.

Vana Jagrruthi invites volunteers to participate in this exercise and help us in crowd control at Dodda Jathre.

General Guidelines:

· Volunteers need to be street smart as this involves talking with people on regular basis.

· Volunteers need to be flexible with accommodation and food as simple accommodation and food will be provided in a nearby village.

· Smoking, consuming alcohol is strictly prohibited. We reserve the right to send back any volunteer found to be doing this.

· The activity will be over on 25th of April Saturday by 5 pm.

· 10 Volunteers are needed so those registering first will be selected.

· Volunteers need to wear Khaki or earthly coloured attire.
