Victoria Academy has very beautiful uniforms for students from 2 years old to 18 years old. There are many types of school uniforms, sizes. Because of growth, uniforms do not always fit. And parents have to buy new uniforms. So that uniforms are idle, uneconomical, and not environmentally friendly. For the sustainable development of the earth, students have been sharing school uniforms for while. Fengtai Cultural and Educational Foundation supports us to take action and make our dreams come true.
In the past six months, the school uniform inheritance plan has been supported by the school, teachers, parents, student unions, and alumni, and the old and new uniforms have returned to the school, allowing students to set appropriate school uniforms, increasing the centripetal force of students, and drawing students closer to their emotions.
Good activities should be shared, Cyberfair let us record this wonderful process, the alumni association continues to share school uniforms, but also consider expanding the sharing of second-hand clothes, and do more for environmental protection.
The activity“Uniform Sharing” was to collect the clothes that students no longer need. Leave them for the students who need them. Which is also "second-hand uniform inheritance".
In this activity, many students donated their clothes. Like me, I donated uniforms and skirts that I can't wear anymore. We also helped students to measure the sizes and find the right second-hand school uniforms for them.
I think this activity is very meaningful because many creatures in the ocean today are dying from accidental garbage consumption. But passing on the second-hand uniforms activity doesn’t only promote the concept of environmental protection. It also reduces the production of clothes and the burdens of the Earth. Also achieves the goal of "sustainable development!"
Seeing a pile of clothes stacked up in the corners of my closet, I could not help but feel a twinge of pity. Those old uniforms seemed to all come to the same ending, gathering dust in the corners of students’ houses. Is there no way to avoid this kind of situation? And how can we make that happen? Then, we came up with the idea of starting something called “Uniform Sharing”. The concept is for the students to bring the old uniforms that they couldn’t fit in anymore and come to exchange them for larger ones that are also “second-handed”. During this activity, we worked together to help to stack up the clothes and the students who came with old ones to get larger uniforms that fit them. Although we are only doing it in our school now and there were not many people who came. The first time is expected to not be so successful. As it gets better, there is a high possibility that we will introduce “Uniform Sharing” to other schools. Fewer clothes thrown away means less waste disposed of. Which is one step forward to protect the environment. That makes this a truly unforgettable experience, knowing that we are doing something for our future world.
Old clothes have always been a problem for everyone.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the number of recycled old clothes has increased from 33,000 tons to 70,000 tons from 2011 to 2018. People's clothes are constantly changing with time, age, and size. The recycling of old clothes is one of the proper ways to solve the problem. People donate clothes they no longer need to children or poor families in remote areas. Instead of disposing of old clothes.
While we solve the problem of old clothes, we also give a helping hand to those in need.
Let's help others and protect the planet together!
Nowadays, the world is constantly developing and changing. Customers buy piles of clothes and leave them at home. Gradually, making them useless. However, we also need to look backward to the past. At this moment, our Earth is dying. Human beings ruined the environment on the way we go forward. We also lost our intention at first. The Earth is polluted, and everyone has the responsibility to save our planet.
In Victoria Academy, we have second-hand dancing shoes and books events held annually. By seeing the uniforms that were stacked in the students' closet, just because the size is too small. We came up with the concept of “Second-hand Uniform Sharing” in Victoria Academy. All the clothes that were designed are magnificent art pieces. It transfers the spirit of the school. Our expectation of uniform sharing was to protect the environment. For the first time this program has been carried out, the impact was expected to be not effective. However, we distributed the idea and the enthusiasm for the action we took. We just started a project that could save our home.
This semester, with the help of teachers, combined with different organizations and members. A number of students held the activity “ Uniform Sharing.” First, we planned how to promote, make a form, and attract students to participate in the activity. With the help of the student council and teachers. Details of the promotion and activities appeared on the school's Facebook page. The volunteers also worked hard to make short videos to explain the intention of the activities. We also made a form together. At the same time, we set up a stall during the school fair. Although no one brought uniforms, the purpose of promotion was achieved. We encountered some difficulties, such as the lack of uniforms from high school, the varied size of uniforms, and the difference in quality. But everyone worked together to solve these difficulties. The insufficiency of high school uniforms was solved by asking senior high students who are approaching their graduation. Allowing this activity to continue. The varied-size problem was solved by exchanging the available clothes. Although the quality problem is a personal preference, we still strongly encouraged others to exchange their uniforms.
Everyone participated in every process of the activity. In the activity, we saw every child holding clothes with innocent faces. Their eyes are full of expectation. I think this must be driving us to continue doing uniform sharing!
Thank you to the team who worked hard and the teachers who taught us during the event. Thank you to every parent and alumni who helped us. Thank you for the strong support from Fengtay Culture and Education Foundation. We are grateful to every student for participating in the activity of sharing second-hand school uniforms. Allowing this activity to continue.
The original intention of the event is not only to contribute to the earth but also to make the school uniforms valuable for secondary uses. Making uniforms to achieve the purpose of inheritance. We want to break the misconception of second-hand clothes. We want to renew a meaningful and emotional activity. Giving uniforms new owners and new lives. To pass down the concept of uniform sharing from generation to generation.
“Sharing is caring” is a uniform sharing activity that does not only solve the school uniform wasting problem. It also encourages the sharing between all the students. By helping the students to find the right size of their clothes, it also includes the expectations and hopes from ourselves. The most important concept of school uniform inheritance needs to pass down from generation to generation. Starting from this activity, we will maintain our intention and continue to pass down our uniforms.
During this uniform sharing project, from collecting clothes and sorting clothes. Volunteers and the student council spent a lot of time and effort on ensuring the success of the project. From the activity, I saw the current situation of second-hand clothes in Taiwan. Other than the existing second-hand books and shoes activity, we should pay more attention to old clothes. How to reduce the burden of the environment? Whether it can reduce the garbage of old clothes and unnecessary waste in the same way. Issues that don’t seem to be paid attention usually are closely related to our lives. From this experience, we will initiate changes from ourselves. Having the opportunity to pay more attention to the issue of second-hand clothes. We also look forward to the idea of future school uniform sharing and continue to improve.
Whenever I see children and even parents when they take the changed clothes back with expectation. Their faces are full of smiles; the joy of helping my brother to measure the clothes is a show of affection. When I donate bags of clothes, I feel very proud - because it is a contribution to the campus and the global environment. I believe this activity is not only about donated clothes but also love and care. We have all felt the warmth of the clothes and the power of working together.
While we were holding this event, we combined different organizations and different members to protect the environment, protect uniforms, share uniforms, and share kindness. We decrease the burden on the earth, and inherit kindness, love our environment - the earth, thank every uniform sharing member, let the sharing continue endlessly!
While there are various ways and actions to achieve "sustainable development," we often neglect some parts of our life, one of them being clothes. Since we were born up to this date, we have bought a tremendous amount of clothes. Most of them were not properly recycled. This is why we came up with the idea of "second-hand uniforms."
By making the uniforms that are needed on a daily basis available to everyone, it is fascinating to say that we solve multiple issues that have stayed unsolved in society. We ensured that uniforms get disposed just because of they don't fit anymore. We ensured that parents don't need to pay extra to compensate for their children's growth. We are honored to say that we accomplished our goals successfully.
