We have identified a problem in our community, and have partnered with the Laramie Chamber Business Alliance to promote our goal of increasing recycling and eliminating polystyrene waste within our community. We are also in the works of partnering with the Laramie Main Street Alliance to promote a more sustainable Laramie. Our goal is to set up meetings with local Laramie business owners, to persuade them to obtain a recycling bin from the city and/or to obtain biodegradable food take out containers. If a business signs the pledge, we give them a green certificate and promote them on our website.
So far, we have pushed our school to stop using Styrofoam lunch trays; we were successful and moved on to a bigger problem, the city's restaurants.
We did interviews on all of the restaurants we could reach. We found out that about 60% of all the local restaurants we could reach don’t have a recycling bin or compostable clam-shell boxes; and most of them didn’t know the you get recycling bins in Laramie.
