Travel, Hotel Accommodations & Meals
We aim to make CUWiP accessible to everyone!
All expenses related to lodging, meals, and conference events are included in the registration fee that was required to reserve your spot.
All meals during the conference are covered by CUWiP (Please provide any dietary restrictions at the time of registration).
You do not need to book or arrange hotel accommodation on Friday or Saturday night.
Travel to the conference is usually paid for by your home institution. Your department head should be able to assist you if you are not familiar with your institution's reimbursement procedure.
In cases where your own department, or other sources, cannot cover travel costs, there are funds available to provide travel support, so no one has to miss out on CUWiP for financial reasons. In order to access those funds, please email cuwip23@uw.edu to request travel support before Dec 2nd 2022 . Before you book a plane ticket, or any other travel costing more than $100, you must send the organizers your travel plans to cuwip23@uw.edu to receive advance permission of reimbursement. Significant costs that are not pre-approved may not be reimbursed. Travel costs will typically be reimbursed after the conference.

Airplane
Seattle is serviced by the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac, Airport Code: SEA), which hosts flights on all major airlines. Sea-Tac is located about 20 miles from the University. Driving from the airport to the University or vice-versa usually takes less than a half hour.
Please find inexpensive flights (economy only, round trip, and book EARLY).
Arrival: If you would like to attend the lab tours, you should plan on arriving at Sea-Tac before 1:30 pm on Friday, January 18. If you would like to go straight to the Welcome Address, you should plan on arriving at Sea-Tac before 4 pm. If you are hungry upon arrival, we recommend eating before exiting the terminal (it's still a long commute).
Departure: Sea-Tac is a busy major international airport. It is recommended to arrive 2 hours early for domestic flights. If you plan to stay through the Closing Comments, you should plan on a flight leaving no earlier than 4:30 pm on Sunday, January 22nd.
Getting from the Airport to the University of Washington
We highly recommend using the Link light rail (information below) to commute between Sea-Tac and all conference locations. Please note: this is a 45-50 min commute, so add that to your plans.
From the arrivals hall at Sea-Tac Airport, follow the signs for Link Light Rail; the station is a short walk from the terminal on the far side of the parking garage. Tickets must be purchased at the station before boarding. The cost is $3.25 and can be paid in cash or with a credit/debit card.
A taxi ride from the airport to the University usually costs approximately $50. Seattle Yellow Cabs are available on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. Call 206-622-6500 or use the curbside phones on the baggage claim level to make arrangements.
Shuttle Express provides 24-hour door-to-door van service to and from the airport. It is the suggested method for transportation from the airport as it will drop you off in front of your hotel or Conference locations, and is convenient if you are traveling with luggage.
Courtesy phones are available at Sea-Tac airport for Shuttle Express. Call 425-981-7000 or 1-800-487-7433, or make reservations online.
Seattle has a great bus service, refer to Metro Transit buses. The Metro system is the most economical means of transportation, but is not recommended if you are arriving late or traveling with a lot of luggage.
Buses usually come every 10 minutes for most of the day. Fare is $2.75 (exact change required) depending on the time of day and the ride takes about 20 minutes. Buses stop along University Way, one block from the UW campus.
