2023 APS CUWiP
APPLICATION

Applications and registration are now closed.
We are looking forward to meeting you at CUWiP 2023 in Seattle in January!

Click the button above to sign up for updates from APS. If you do so, you will receive notifications of important dates and deadlines, as well as links.

Application

Applications to CUWiP will open on August 29th 2022. You apply by completing the form we will link above between Monday, August 29th, 2022 and 5:00pm EST on Monday, October 31st, 2022. See timeline below for all the important dates.

Application to CUWiP is free.

Students at US institutions:

Any undergraduate student attending a US college/university is invited to apply to attend an APS CUWiP. You can do so using the bottom above, and APS CUWiP will help you join the site most convenient to you.

You must be over the age of 18 at the time of the conference. High school students are not permitted to apply. For more information, see our application page.

It is very important to complete all parts of the application and to write a thoughtful Applicant Statement. If conferences are oversubscribed, priority will be given to applicants who:

  1. Are undergraduate physics or engineering majors.

  2. Have never attended an APS CUWiP.

There is no formal application or registration process for non-undergraduate students and interested faculty and mentors. We encourage you to email the site you would like to attend directly for details about attendance and participation

Students at Canadian institutions:

You are encouraged to apply to the Canadian CUWiP site. Limited spaces are available at CUWiP at the University of Washington for Canadian students who are geographically close to Seattle. You can apply using the link above between August 29th and October 3rd, but Canadian students may not be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses or a registration fee waiver.. For more information about eligibility, see our eligibility FAQ or email cuwip23@uw.edu.

Application is not Registration!

Note that the application and registration are different: to attend an APS CUWiP conference, interested undergraduates must apply first using the bottom above, the CUWiP leadership directs you to a site, and the site reviews your application. You will receive an email from APS in late October on whether you are accepted, wait-listed, or declined according to the priorities listed above. If accepted, you will be able to register.

The application is free! Registration has a one-time fee of $45 which helps offset some of the cost of the conference, including all lodging and meals. If necessary, the registration fee can be waived. To request a fee waiver, please contact women@aps.org.

View deadline details in the timeline below and on the CUWIP homepage.

Registration

Once you have been accepted, you will need to register to confirm that you will actually be attending the conference, as well as to provide useful specifics to make your attendance more comfortable, such as special accommodations and dietary restrictions. If you are accepted to a CUWiP site, the email will contain instructions on how to register for that site by the deadline given in the email. You must register by the deadline contained in the email or your acceptance will be void and the CUWiP spot you were offered will be offered to a wait-listed student.

There is a one-time registration fee of $45, which helps offset some of the cost of the conference, including all lodging and meals. If your department is not covering the cost, and the $45 would cause financial hardship, you may request a fee waiver by following the procedure explained in your acceptance email or contacting women@aps.org.

For more information, see the Application and Registration section of the FAQ tab.
