There is more variability in the annual maximum flood series than the annual average stream flow series series. The peak annual has a percent standard deviation of 52.10% whereas the average annual is 24.31%. The peak discharge from 1927 was the largest recorded flood event on the Winooski River, because of this, the standard deviation is much higher since an event of such magnitude is uncommon (recurrence interval: 93 years). The average annual series does not include data from 1927. The magnitudes and recurrence interval of storm events are very variable, so, it is reasonable that there would be a greater standard deviation than the average annual stream flow.
