Business formal attire is the standard dress code for MUN conferences. This means delegates should wear professional business clothing that conveys respect for the formality of the proceedings. For men, this typically includes a suit (jacket and dress pants), dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes. For women, this includes a suit (pantsuit or skirt suit), blouse, and dress shoes, or a professional dress with a blazer. Clothing should be conservative in colour (navy, black, gray, or other neutral tones) and style. Avoid casual elements like jeans, sneakers, t-shirts, or overly flashy accessories. Always check your specific conference guidelines, as some conferences may have variations in their dress code requirements or may specify additional details.
Although joining an external conference (those which are hosted by other schools or organizations) can greatly enrich your Model UN experience and expose you to diverse perspectives from delegates across different institutions, it is not a requirement for participation in SCMUN. We understand that external conferences may present barriers such as cost, travel logistics, or time commitments that not all students can manage. Therefore, we offer a variety of alternative opportunities throughout the year that allow you to develop your MUN skills and engage with the Model UN community. These include comprehensive training sessions where you'll learn debate techniques, research methods, and parliamentary procedure, as well as mock MUN simulations that recreate the conference experience in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. These internal events are specifically designed to help newcomers build confidence, practice their skills, and prepare for future conferences—whether internal or external—at their own pace. You can gain valuable experience and make meaningful contributions to SCMUN without ever attending an external conference.
Currently, we are trying to get CCR accreditation from the school; however, at the moment, we cannot guarantee CCR for delegates.
No, missing training sessions will not prevent you from attending a conference. We recognize that students balance multiple academic, extracurricular, and personal commitments that may occasionally conflict with training schedules, and we will not penalize anyone for being unable to attend every session. That said, training sessions serve an important purpose in your Model UN journey. They are specifically designed to equip delegates with essential skills such as parliamentary procedure, diplomatic negotiation techniques, effective public speaking, and thorough research methodologies. Additionally, these sessions provide a valuable opportunity to ask questions, clarify doubts, and receive personalized guidance from experienced MUN participants in a supportive, low-pressure environment. While attendance is not mandatory, we strongly encourage you to participate in as many training sessions as possible to maximize your preparedness, build your confidence, and ensure you have the best possible experience at conferences.
