Former Washington and UNM RB Aaron Dumas will transfer to UTEP, sources confirmed to MinerStrikes on Friday. Dumas, a native of El Paso, redshirted this past year for the Huskies. In high school, Dumas dominated at Americas HS in East El Paso.

Dumas is considered as one of, if not the, most dominant back in El Paso history, as in only 2 full seasons, he rushed for 6,083 yards and 57 touchdowns. He burst onto the scene in his first varsity season as a sophomore. Dumas ran for 303 yards and 4 TD's in his first varsity game in 2018 against Andress, then followed that performance up by rushing for 377 yards against Eastwood. He would finish that season with 2,332 yards rushing and 15 TD's. His junior year would go down as one of the greatest in city history, and it included a city record. In a 70-28 route of Pebble Hills, Dumas broke the El Paso single-season rushing TD record. 3,184 yards and a city-record 36 TD's were his final numbers that year

If not for a COVID-shortened senior year for Dumas, he may have broken current UTEP RB Deion Hankins all-time city rushing record, but we'll never know. Aside from that, Dumas was also a two-time AP Class 6A All-State selection.

His illustrious prep career would garner him offers from Arizona State, Houston, SMU, SDSU, UNM, UTSA, Fresno State, and more. He would commit to New Mexico where in his true freshman season with the Lobos, he would run for 658 yards on 136 yards and 2 TD's. He would go on to be named the Lobos' offensive MVP at the team's award banquet. He would then transfer to Washington following that season.

The addition of Dumas to an already stacked RB room puts UTEP in the position to have 4-5 running backs that can see the field this year. Deion Hankins will be the lead back, with both Dumas and Mike Franklin right behind him. Former JUCO star Torrance Burgess Jr. and Sam Houston State transfer Daryon Triche each have a shot to get some carries this season, too.

UTEP has wanted Dumas sine high school, so I'm expecting to see him be used in a variety of ways this season for the Miners. Can UTEP go bowling with this roster? Yes, without a doubt. But will it happen? Guess we'll find out.
