2024 QB Gael Ochoa commits to UTEP

Local star Gael Ochoa will stay home for his college career

Late last month, Pebble Hills (TX) star QB Gael Ochoa committed to UTEP during the Spartan's spring game. The 6’2 playmaking shot caller helped lead Pebble Hills to their best season in school history last year, including a bi-district playoff victory over Odessa Permian. Ochoa had a total of 5 TD’s in that game. In the Spartan's 49-42 loss in the area round to state-ranked Fort Worth North Crowley, Ochoa had 343 yards and 4 TD's.

The senior-to-be is the first and only commit in the 2024 class so far for the Miners, continuing the trend of the Miners picking up a commitment from a QB early in the recruiting cycle. The addition of Ochoa puts the Miners at 6 QB’s deep for the 2024 season (Kevin Hurley, Jake McNamara, Seth Mouser, Cade McConnell, Zach Rodgriguez, and Ochoa).

UTEP offered Ochoa earlier in the year, making it his first offer. Having Ochoa commit early is hue for the Miners, because who knows what kind of a jump he can make going into his senior year, and the kind of offers he can garner.

Ochoa has good size for the quarterback position, standing at 6’2 and weighing around 180 pounds. If he can continue to add size once he steps foot on campus, he has a real shot of playing early in his UTEP career.
