Friday, December 6, 2024 at NOON: Submit your course submission form to the USIE Coordinator
Friday, January 17, 2025: Submit your Social Media Spotlight Information to the USIE Coordinator and USAC Committee

January 2: (if applicable) Submit changes to your syllabus based on the committee's comments (shared during the winter break) to the USIE Coordinator
January 17: Enroll into your contract course, (DEPT) 188SB Course
January 17: Enroll into your pedagogy seminar, HNRS 101E, after you receive the PTE code from the USIE Coordinator
January 17: Submit your preferred class schedule for your USIE seminar in the Spring to your department scheduler (refer to Contact Information tab above for their email address)
April 11: Enroll into your contract course, (DEPT) 188SC Course
May 16: RSVP to the Annual USIE Spring Reception (5/28/25, Wednesday, 12:00pm, Faculty Center, Sequoia room)
TBA: Your Faculty Mentor must submit the grades for your course by this date
The checklist below explains in further detail the instructions that you need to follow before each deadline. Many of the deadlines require further preparation beforehand, so please read through each quarter's checklist carefully.
ENROLL INTO YOUR (DEPT) 188SA CONTRACT COURSE
(Deadline: October 11, End of Week 2)
Prior to creating the contract course, decide on a meeting schedule throughout the quarter with your faculty mentor to check-in regularly about the development of your USIE seminar.
Create the contract via MyUCLA. *Please note that you will be able to create the contract approximately 2-3 weeks before the quarter begins. On the menu click “Classes,” then on to “Contract Courses,” and then click “Plan and Enroll.” Create the contract under your Faculty Mentor’s department (you can confirm which department this is with the USIE Coordinator)
Course Details: 1-unit and Letter Grade
Once you have created the contract you will need to get it signed by your Faculty Mentor and the USIE Coordinator before you turn it into your Faculty Mentor’s Department for approval. Virtual e-signatures will be accepted.
Each department has a designated Undergraduate Students Affairs Officer who finalizes your enrollment into your contract course. They are typically responsible for getting the Dept Chair's signature on your behalf. Please refer to this contact page to find the department contact for enrolling you into your contract course. *If your faculty mentor is in the Med dept, please obtain the Dept Chair's signature from the person on the contact list, and submit to the registrar's office via Message Center.
It is VERY important to get this process started before the quarter begins and make sure your department enrolls you BEFORE Week 2.
ENROLL INTO HONORS COLLEGIUM (HNRS) 101E – LEADING UNDERGRADUATE SEMINARS
(Deadline: October 11, End of Week 2)
There are two HNRS 101E Seminars (also known as the Pedagogy Seminars) covering the same material, on:
Monday, Seminar 1, at 2:00-2:50pm, Public Affairs, 2292
Thursday, Seminar 2, at 5-5:50pm, Rolfe Hall, 3115
How to Enroll:
To enroll in the Pedagogy Seminars you will need a PTE (Permission to Enroll) number, which you can receive from the instructor.
SUBMIT YOUR COURSE SUBMISSION FORM
(Deadline: December 6, Beginning of 10th week)
Please fill out this fillable form. Some notes:
Title: A course title should reflect the content of the course. It should be succinct. Bear in mind that the title will be abbreviated to 19 characters for use on student transcripts. Please also omit any articles, such as “a,” “an,” or “the,” when creating your title as they will be deleted.
Short description: no longer than 1080 characters (spaces included).
Refer to the descriptions currently published on the Schedule of Classes on how to model your description.
The character count in the short description is for the Schedule of Classes only. (NOTE: There is no character count for the course description in your course syllabus.)
Syllabus: Along with all the necessary information that should be on a syllabus, please also make sure there is a clear "Learning Objective" section (this can be a simple bulleted list of objectives and goals). The advisory committee will review these during week 10 in order for these course to be officially created in the UCLA course inventory system.

Please fill out this form by january 24. Afterwards, the USAC committee will start distributing your information across campus in time for Spring 2025 enrollment times.

After the Department Chair signs off, turn it into the department. Each department has a designated Undergraduate Students Affairs Officer who finalizes your enrollment into your contract course; please refer to this contact page to find the departmental contact in charge of enrolling you into your contract course.

ENROLL INTO HONORS COLLEGIUM 101E – LEADING UNDERGRADUATE SEMINARS
(Deadline: January 17, End of Week 2)
The times for the pedagogy seminars will be similar to the Fall class times.
If there are any schedule conflicts, please let the USIE Coordinator know to see we can make accommodations.
To enroll in the Pedagogy Seminars you will need a PTE (Permission to Enroll) number, once I receive your preference, I will send you further instructions on how to obtain a PTE.
SUBMIT YOUR PREFERRED SCHEDULE FOR YOUR SPRING SEMINAR TO YOUR DEPARTMENT
(Deadline: January 17, End of Week 2)
There are 2 committees that need to approve of the final syllabus that you submitted - the USIE committee and the FEC Committee.
The USIE committee will return any comments and feedback on your syllabi by Friday, Dec 20, of Winter quarter. If applicable, submit all amendments to the USIE Coordinator by January 2, 2024.
The FEC committee will review and if applicable, please submit all amendments ASAP to the USIE coordinator. The turnaround for this part of the process must be very swift! After all revisions have been made, you will be able to begin scheduling your Spring USIE seminar.
Scheduling your Seminar
All USIE Seminars are "88S"
In other words, your Spring USIE Seminar will be [Your Faculty Mentor's Dept] 88S: The Title of your USIE Seminar
Secure your seminar meeting day, time, and location with your Faculty Mentor’s department
You can find the contact information of the department schedulers here.
When emailing a scheduling request, please briefly introduce what USIE is and CC your faculty mentor on the email, as many department schedulers may be unfamiliar initially with the nature of your scheduling request.
A good scheduling request should consist of:
Names of Instructors: You AND Your Faculty Mentor should be officially registered as the Instructors on Record
Several time options (in order of preference)
Several locations (in order of preference)
Enrollment Cap: All USIE Seminars are capped at 25 students MAX.
If you are unable to secure a location through your Faculty Mentor’s department, send your schedule preferences to the USIE Coordinator.
Final notes: classroom space is very limited on campus, so it is advised you try to complete these steps as soon as possible to avoid any scheduling inconveniences.
ENROLL INTO YOUR (DEPT) 188SC CONTRACT COURSE
(Deadline: April 11, End of Week 2)
Like previous quarters, you must create this contract on your MyUCLA account, collect the required signatures to turn into your department as they are the final processors of your contract course.
Prior to creating the contract course, decide on a schedule throughout the quarter for your faculty mentor to visit your seminar. Not more than 2 visits is required of your mentor.
USIE SPRING RECEPTION
(Wednesday, May 28)
Please look for an official note about this annual event from the USIE Coordinator to RSVP, midway through the Spring quarter.
SUBMISSION OF FINAL GRADES
