Rex Wilson - MHS Staff
Rex Wilson graduated from Dighton High School in 1955 and entered Ft. Hays State College the same year to study Math Education and compete for the Ft. Hays Track and Field team – twice qualifying for the NAIA National track meet placing second and third.)
In the fall of 1964, Mr. Wilson moved his family to Marion where he taught math and coached track and cross country for 39 years.
Although Mr. Wilson was an outstanding teacher and coach, his life was defined by his steady presence, reliability, selflessness and concern for those he worked with. He always displayed the personal qualities that epitomize what an educator should be. He was demanding, yet patient; tough, yet compassionate; and commanded respect, by treating his students/athletes with respect.
2024 : Staff Recognition - Helen (Olsen) Reznicek / Recipient - Grace Hett
Helen (Olsen) Reznicek – MHS Staff (Class of '63)
Helen Olsen Reznicek graduated from Marion High School in 1963. She continued her education at Kansas State Teachers College (Emporia State University), graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Education. Mrs. Reznicek began her teaching at Dodge City High School, before accepting the Business teaching position at her alma mater in 1968. During her 31-year tenure in USD 408, in addition to teaching Business courses, she served as cheerleader and yearbook sponsor.
Mrs. Reznicek retired from USD 408 in May of 1999, but continued to use her business education skills, working at the Edward Jones Investment Office in Marion, as a Branch Office Administrator until earlier this year.
2023 : Staff Recognition - John Hudson / Recipient - Calli Burkholder
John Hudson – MHS Staff
John Hudson served three years in the Navy after HS, before graduating from Ft. Hays in 1961 with a B.S. in English. While at Ft. Hays, he also found time to earn All-American honors as a high jumper and is a member of their Sports Hall of Fame. After a brief stint at Wallace County, Hudson came to MHS in the fall of 1967 to teach English Composition. While in Marion, he earned his Masters in English from KSU and his original thesis, “Models and Related Teaching of High School Expositive and Argumentative Writing” became his career’s bedrock.
After Marion, Hudson taught 28 years at McPherson HS and later at Hutchinson Community College. Hudson loved teaching those with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. He was married to Carol Louise and has three daughters and a son - and a host of former students who are grateful for his skill and devotion to teaching.
