Dr. Ron Oelschlager – Class of 1961
Ron Oelschlager graduated from Marion High School in 1961. After graduation, he attended the University of Kansas on a football scholarship, earning 3 letters and performing at a level that influenced the Denver Broncos to draft him.
Not only did Ron excel on the gridiron at KU, he also earned Academic All-American honors, was the recipient of the prestigious Weaver Award as an outstanding scholar athlete and was inducted into the National Collegiate Football Hall of Fame for his academics. He would later tell his kids that he learned from an early age it was much easier to use your brain than it was to use your body.
True to his advice, Ron opted to go to medical school at the University of Kansas rather than pursue a career in professional football. After graduating from medical school, Ron had the opportunity to relocate back to Lawrence, Kansas and began his practice in Radiology. Dr. Oelschlager also became a team doctor for the University of Kansas Athletic Department and still resides in Lawrence today with his wife of 59 years, Marcia Oelschlager. Dennis Knoblock – Class of 1968
Dennis grew up in Marion, KS where he excelled as an athlete in football, basketball and track. He would pursue football in college first at Hutchinson Community College and then Emporia State University where he graduated in 1972.
Dennis was one of the founders of the MHSCSP, and adamant in his support of giving back to his alma mater, while recognizing those that have positively influenced so many Warrior students. He was very generous with his time, and donated an abundance of items which were used as prizes at the Program’s Annual Golf Tournament.
It is certain that he would be proud of the expansion to the program he helped create, and honored to be recognized by the first awarded Alum Recognition Scholarship.
