Congratulations on being qualified to join the military and for choosing the Air Force or Space Force! Now, what's next? Several things, some more paperwork, Delayed Entry Program (DEP) expectations, and building your job preference list.
Your job? STAYING QUALIFIED and preparing for BMT. Start making arrangements now. Have a car? What are you going to do with it? Stash it at your folks house? What about your other bills? These things can take time to plan out.
At this point in time, if you are going for a special field, such as Special Warfare, or Space Force, you will be directed to those specific recruiters for continuing the application process and additional testing or requirements.
Recruiters do not get a bonus for enlisting certain jobs.
Recruiters do not make a commission on the amount of people we get to join.
You cannot wait around for "my number 1 pick". Murphy's Law states you will get that same job.
Job selection and the process is not the same across all the branches
You can only list 2 "Medical" jobs. These are very uncommon jobs. But.... ask about the Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program.
We do not have a list of open jobs that we can look at and just assign you one.
We have a list available of the 25 most requested jobs that we work through. They run the whole gambit of areas. From Security, to Mechanics, to Cyber. As this list changes from time to time your recruiter will be able to provide a current list. It should have been provided early on. This way you have ample opportunity to select the ones you want. How many do you pick from those 25? At least 5. That's it. The remainder of the 10 come from your list of qualified jobs from MEPS. You can put them in any order of your choice. The maximum amount of jobs you want to try to get hired for is 20. If you are interested in a job that requires additional testing, such as Cryptologic Linguist, we will work to get you scheduled.
DO NOT PUT DOWN A JOB YOU DO NOT WANT!
Once your list is completed, get a copy of it. Start doing more research! How long is the tech school? Where can that job go? Are there certifications that come with the job? Your recruiter should be able to help answer most the questions you may have, but it doesn't hurt to do your own.
Eventually, you WILL be picked up for a job. Once that's done, it's time for Step 5! In the mean time, enjoy the DEP, stay qualified and out of trouble, and start learning about the Air Force and Space Force.
