Brownie
Type of food: Square or bar chocolate cookie
Brownies are bar chocolate fudgy cookies. They are not considered cakes.
They are typically eaten by hand, often accompanied with milk, ice cream or topped with whipped cream.
The Brownie was developed in the United States at the end of the 19th century and popularized in the U.S. and Canada during the first half of the 20th century.
One legend about the creation of brownies is that Brownies were first made in 1893 in Chicago, when Bertha Palmer, a prominent Chicago socialite, whose husband owned the “Palme House Hotel” had to attend the “Chicago Columbian Exposition” and she wanted small cakes to be eaten easily, as finger food, by the ladies attending the event. The result was the Palmer House Brownie with walnuts.
