Approximately 45 guests attended the first public meeting regarding the Brightmark facility and the plans to recycle plastics here in Thomaston, GA.
Discussed was the chemical recycling process of Pyrolysis, the products created (gas, oil, solid (char), and the amount (400K Tons) of plastic waste they plan to "recycle".
Further discussion on how Brightmark plans to produce an oil product and transport the product by rail / truck to other facilities for refining into fuel and wax. Concerns are safety issues (fires/spills/health concerns), current violations, chemical release (CO2 plus others) into the air, and solid waste (char) disposal (to name a few).
Concerns about the future intent of the Brightmark facility becoming a refining facility.
Question / Answer session with representatives from other environmental organizations, legal representatives, and and interview with a first-hand witness (former employee) to the reality of safety concerns.
We choose safety over jobs and a tax digest.
