For the last 3 years UPSA has sponsored a youth trap program with the intent on teaching our youth about firearm safety, trap shooting techniques, team sports and self-confidence. Many of the former youth participants have progressed through the program to become successful adult trap shooters and more importantly responsible citizens. Any youth between the ages of 12-18 is eligible and encouraged to join the program. Parents and the youth must become club members and a parent or responsible adult is required to be in attendance during the practices. The club’s sponsorship of this program includes providing the targets and ammunition at no cost. In addition, an experienced volunteer coach who works very well with the youth is an integral part of the program. Club owned shotguns are available to borrow which are suited for young shooters.
The youth trap practices are typically held Thursday late afternoons, 5 – 6 PM in the spring and fall at UPSA. In addition, the program members are encouraged to shoot for the UPSA trap team that participates in the Montgomery County Trapshooting League.
