In accordance with our constitution, the MSGSA generally holds two elections during the year.
All executive members, except the VP External, are chosen in an election, usually in the month of September. The VP External is in charge of organizing this election.
The VP External is chosen in a second, separate election, held annually, usually in the month of April.
If there is a vacant position after an election (or in between elections), a special election is held to fill the vacant position(s).
Timeline for the Fall 2023 election
This will be an election to fill all executive positions, apart from the VP External. Namely, the President, VP Finance, VP Academic, VP Social, VP Labour, VP Equity and Student Life, and VP Media and Communications. Descriptions of these roles can be found in the constitution.
September 25th - October 1st: Submission of candidature. A form will be circulated among all grad students, allowing them to state their intent to run for one of the elected positions.
October 2nd - October 8th: Campaigning. The students who are running for each position are announced. Candidates can encourage their friends and colleagues to vote for them.
October 9th - October 12th: Voting. An online ballot will be circulated among all graduate students, allowing them to vote for candidates.
October 13th: Results announced.
