AHSecure – Email Safety
At AHS, approximately 60 million emails are send and received every month. Of those emails, on average 18 million are incoming between AHS and external email addresses such as private clinics, vendors and personal emails.
Emails sent between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and University of Calgary (U of C) email addresses containing sensitive information do not need additional encryption. There is a virtual tunnel between AHS and U of C which automatically protects or encrypts information while it is being sent between the two institutions.
If, however, sensitive information is being sent by email from either institution to any outside email address (i.e. other institutions or organizations, Gmail, Yahoo, or community clinics), encryption is required.
