On-Call Information

Please review the above On-Call document in detail.

1. Call for the Tertiary Neurorehab Unit (TNR or Unit 58) ward issues at the Foothills Medical Centre is home call. The TNR number is 403-944-4258. 

2. No consults or calls outside of TNR. If any calls or questions are received regarding patients outside of the TNR unit, please defer them to daytime physiatry consult services or if there is trouble defer to the staff on call.

3. TNR is located on the 5th floor of SSB at FMC, Unit 58. It consists of 45 beds (3 services: 15 brain injury, 15 stroke and 15 spinal cord injury). 

4. For all 3 services, the MRP are hospitalists (2 per service or 6 total) and each service has a physiatrist consultant (3 total). However all the physiatrists rotate call for one week at a time so it is very possible that the staff on call with you does not know the patients since they’re likely not on service.

5. The daytime team (hospitalist, physiatrist, or resident on service) will reach out to the on-call resident if there are significant issues to handover.  You can also contact them directly (page or call the unit). If there are issues for you to handover to any of the brain/stroke/spine teams the next day, you can call the hospitalists directly.

6. On the weekends, the on call resident will go in to round on patients and see anyone who nursing may have concerns about. There is a black book on the unit by the nursing desks where nursing writes issues for the docs to look at. Take a look at it on both Saturday and Sunday and if there are non-acute issues, they can be deferred to the regular rehabilitation team.
