The Speaker Series Committee invites women mathematicians to give talks accessible to graduate students and upper-level undergraduate students. One aim of the series is to increase the visibility of women researchers in the mathematical sciences. Another aim is to provide a forum for the discussion of mathematics and its practice from a feminist perspective. A third aim is to spark interest in mathematics, particularly among women and historically underrepresented groups. The diversity of the speakers, in biography, pedagogy, and research, will enrich the mathematical community.
The Speaker Series Committee invites two prominent female mathematicians to visit the UO each year, for the "Distinguished Speaker Series." The Speaker Series is able to provide support for each mathematician to give two talks. Collectively, the talks will cover (as much as possible) material which is accessible to graduate students, material accessible to advanced undergraduates, and issues of importance to women in the mathematical sciences.
