Notes compiled by Sherri Schultz from a presentation at the Springfield/Eugene-area Editors (SEE) monthly lunch hour, May 14, 2019. For more info about Dorothy, visit her website: www.dorothyzemach.com.
Dorothy told us about her journey to editing. One early client wrote a romance novel called Cake as a lark, which Dorothy edited, and it caught fire; the author has now written a series of five.
Dorothy also edits fiction for Amazon and operates Wayzgoose Press; she brought many books to show.
Resources & concepts mentioned:
- She had high praise for Vellum, a Mac-only book-publishing tool ($199-$250).
- Her tax preparer and CPA par excellence is Bob Buchholtz.
- The merits of an LLC vs. an S corporation (the option that Dorothy chose, on Bob's advice given her personal & family situation) were discussed.
- Pearson and ETS were critiqued heartily; Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on standardized testing was called spot-on.
