The epic story of The Wright Brothers and their flying machine comes to life in this modern day combination of rap, song and narration. Told by a group of intrepid reporters who are tailing the inventors, we discover that as incredible as Orville and Wilbur's feat of inventing the first successful airplane was, the real lesson of the Wright Brothers may well be the example they demonstrated to each of us to have the courage to live our dreams and set our sights always up and not down.
We will be learning all the songs and choreography during music class so that every 5th grader will be able to be a part of the Large Ensemble.
The only commitment (outside of school hours) to be in the Large Ensemble is to be at the performance on Friday, April 24th!
One special thing about this musical is that it has been part of our school’s history before. Some members of our school community may remember that we did this same show when this year's 8th graders were in 5th grade.
That makes this performance an exciting opportunity for our current 5th graders. This is your chance to bring new energy, growth, and creativity to the music and storytelling—to show how much you’ve learned and how far the program has come.
Every year, performances evolve because students grow, skills improve, and each cast brings something unique. Let’s take pride in making this version our own and presenting the strongest performance we can.
I’m proud of the hard work you’re putting in, and I’m excited for everyone to see what this group brings to the stage.

Click to see what students should wear to the performance!
For the performance, all 5th grade students not in the cast* should wear:
Dark bottoms (pants, shorts, skirt)
This could be dark denim, school uniform navy, etc.
Light blue top with no screen print.
If not *light* blue, bright blue works too. And if no blue, white could be ok.
The goal is to look like the blue sky when all the 5th graders are standing together on the risers.
If the t-shirt has a screen print, students can wear it inside out so the screen print doesn't show. But there should be no screen print on front or back because for part of the musical they'll be turned around so the audience will see their back.
*If you're not sure if your child is in the cast, they are not. You would definitely know.

For our musical, we're looking for some pieces to borrow to fill out our set! If you happen to have any of the following things that we could borrow, please email Ms. Broesder at bbroesder@indiantrailprep.org !
Bicycle that looks like it could be from around 1900. If it's broken, that would still be great!
Tool "box" that's really old. I'm thinking like, the really old metal ones that didn't have a lid, more like a... caddy?
Tools that look old. Especially wrenches or screwdrivers.
Typewriter that looks like it could be from around 1900.
Luggage that looks really old without wheels. Trunks or hat boxes would be fun too!
