My most important goal for students in kindergarten music is to begin to develop a joy for music and singing. We will play lots of singing and moving games as we explore and learn about comparatives like loud and soft, high and low, fast and slow, up and down, same and different etc. We’ll learn about the four voices and focus on using our singing voices. In the spring we’ll begin focusing on steady beat so we can be prepared to start learning how to read music in 1st grade! But if you ask your student what they’re learning in music, they probably won’t tell you all about that. They’ll just remember how much fun they had and the games they played!
Last year we learned about the comparatives in music, loud and soft, high and low, fast and slow, up and down, etc. We began learning about steady beat and practiced using our four voices. This year in first grade, we will continue to reinforce these things as well as begin to learn to read music! We’ll learn about rhythms like quarter notes, eighth notes, maybe even quarter rests! And pitch patterns that use so and mi, and maybe even la! And we’ll do it all through really fun games and songs!
In addition to learning new songs and games, this year we will learn new rhythm patterns like quarter rests and half notes, new pitch patterns that include la and hopefully do, other musical elements like meter and staff, as well as history, genres and performance skills! We will continue to learn music from various cultures, and plan to showcase what we’re learning in an “informance” (more info to come)!
In addition to learning new songs and games, this year we will learn new rhythm patterns (we already know quarter note, and eighth notes!) new pitch patterns (we already know so and mi!) and begin learning recorder!
In addition to learning new songs and games, this year we will learn new rhythm patterns, new pitch patterns, and continue using recorders!
In addition to learning new songs and games, this year we will learn new rhythm patterns, new pitch patterns, and continue using recorders! Also, stay tuned for more information about this year's elementary musical!
