The Drill team is the core of every NJROTC unit, embodying key aspects of teamwork, discipline, and dedication. Competitions feature four different drill routines: armed and unarmed basic, which follow traditional military drill as directed by a drill rubric; and armed and unarmed exhibition routines, which are fully planned and created by cadets. These routines are unique to each unit and showcase the team's creativity and skill. Additionally, every competition includes a color guard routine, a graded platoon Personnel Inspection (PI) similar to UGHS uniform inspections, an academic test taken by selected members, and an athletic event comprising timed push-ups, sit-ups, and a team relay race. After all team events, the awards ceremony recognizes both team and individual achievements, such as 1st place in overall drill, 3rd in academics, or medals awarded for excellence in push-ups or academic scores.
