Projects and Partners

Books for Keeps

Our chapter enjoys a wide-reaching community partnership with Books for Keeps, a literacy nonprofit based in Athens, Ga. Through this partnership with BFK, we hold continuous campus book drives: volunteer in their warehouse sorting, packing, and unpacking books; and help with the end-of-year book distributions in Athens-area schools. "Untitled" coffee and Jittery Joe's

Members of our executive board and leadership team visited the Athens-based Jittery Joe's Roastery in January 2019 and, with the help of Head Roaster Charlie Mustard, selected a custom blend. We designed a label and created a marketing plan to sell cans of the medium roast, small-batch coffee on campus and beyond, including at Convention. Proceeds from this fundraiser directly benefit student travel, membership subsidies, and/or book scholarships. [ buy "Untitled" coffee | Jittery Joe's website ]

Little free library

Our chapter has installed two Little Free Libraries on the UNG Gainesville campus. These structures, one purchased from LFL, the other a recycled newspaper box donated by a UNG alumni and friend of the chapter, not only help spread the joy of reading across campus but also provide leadership opportunities to our members. Other projects...

  • In Spring 2019, we restocked the Lending Library at the UNG Gainesville Military Resource Center, using Sigma Tau Delta Project Grant dollars. For this project, we collaborated with the MRC director and a professor in the English Department who worked closely with these students to provide new reading materials tailored to their needs.

  • During the pandemic, we initiated a $25 membership subsidy to help prospective members offset the cost of joining the national society. Our fundraising has allowed the chapter to continue this benefit to all new full members.

  • In fall 2021, we launched a book scholarship available to full and probationary members to help offset the cost of course-required books.
