Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. The Alpha Upsilon Phi chapter, based at UNG Gainesville with members on the Oconee and Cumming campuses as well, offers opportunities for scholarship, leadership, and service to students across all majors. With both full and probationary membership options, this student-run organization provides a community for those interested in reading and the study of literature, language, and creative writing.
We hold membership drives every semester and induct new members in September and January each year. Full members must meet the following criteria at the time of induction:
minimum 3.3 GPA in all English classes and overall
at least two ENGL classes beyond ENGL 1102
at least three semesters of coursework
Probationary membership is open to anyone not meeting these criteria.
If you're interested in joining this dynamic group, complete this membership interest form.
The executive board members are the core leadership team of the chapter and are elected on an annual basis each April to serve the following academic year.

Q: If you could have one non-traditional animal as a pet, what animal would it be?
A: Hands down, no thought required- an opossum.
Q: What is your favorite memory with Sigma Tau Delta?

A: I was looking to get involved with groups on campus and received an invitation and an email from Dr. Dillard.

Q: If you could have one non-traditional animal as a pet, what animal would it be?
A: A stoat! They're like precious little ferrets but smaller and sillier :>
Q: What is your favorite memory with Sigma Tau Delta?
A: My favorite memory is absolutely going to the international convention back in March. It was such a great experience— both to present my work and to hear other students and some great authors present theirs!
Q: What made you join Sigma Tau Delta?
A: I joined Sigma Tau Delta because I was encouraged by people I knew! Both a professor and a few friends who were already members told me about it. I did some research and heard about all the really awesome benefits/opportunities that Sigma Tau offers, and decided to give it a shot!

Q: If you could have one non-traditional animal as a pet, what animal would it be?
A: Any animal? A moogle from Final Fantasy (specifically the Crystal Chronicles design).
Q: What is your favorite memory with Sigma Tau Delta?
A: My favorite memory is the first time I volunteered for Books for Keeps. I was introduced to an organization that I was always curious about, and it gave me the chance to connect and share my goals with Dr. Dillard. It was a very precious moment for me, because I felt so much closer to my goals and left with a clearer idea of what I wanted to do with my time back on campus.
Q: What made you join Sigma Tau Delta?
A: I joined Sigma Tau Delta to become more involved and connected with the community at, and surrounding UNG. When I decided to pursue a second degree, one of my primary goals was to become more involved, and I knew I could do so with Sigma Tau Delta.
Coordinators are appointed by the leadership team and assist the Executive Board with special projects.
