In the morning, we meet the Folkbosino group: they introduce the figure of The Girometta, a character of our tradition bound to the history of Varese and the Sacred Mountain.

During the morning we pay a visit to the Church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, near the Cenacolo

Here the Bentivoglio family (see the portraits of Alessandro Bentivoglio and his wife Ippolita Sforza above) commissioned an important fresco cycle to Bernardino Luini, the most representative of the "Leonardeschi", or the followers of Leonardo, who copied his style.

In the cloister, once reserved to the nuns, we discover an interesting fresco representing Noah's ark. We notice strange animals, such as the unicorn ...

Before entering the refectory where the Last supper by Leonardo is located, we visit the Santa Maria delle Grazie Monastery Church

and discover the simple but magnificent Renaissance architecture that characterizes it

The Last Supper is one of the most famous pieces of art all over the world! Francesco Sforza commissioned it to Leonardo, who painted it on the wall of the refectory in Santa Maria delle Grazie for the Benedectin monks

In front of the Last Supper we admire the Crucifixion by Montorfano. Leonardo probably worked on a part of this fresco, representing the Donors: Ludovico Sforza and Beatrice d'Este and their sons. Their portraits are now lost

Now we are ready for lunch

In the afternoon we visit the Sforza Castle. Unfortunately we can't enter the Sala delle Asse painted by Leonardo because it reopens today after years of restoration but ...

...if it isn't possible to pay a visit to such an example of Leonardo's genius, we visit the Spanish Hospital, that houses another masterpiece from the Renaissance period: Pietà Rondanini by Michelangelo!

Then we walk to the town center: this is our beautiful Cathedral

In the city center, near Piazza del Duomo, we enter Galleria Vittorio Emanuele: we find the famous bull on the flooring. It is said that pointing a foot on its figure and turning three times around, brings luck. Many of us want good fortune!!!

At the end of the Galleria we are in La Scala Square: here we find Leonardo statue

Finally we visit the most modern and sustainable district of Milan

we enter Castelseprio archeological area, part of the serial site Longobards in Italy. Places of the power (568-774 AD)

In the local museum called Antiquarium we can see a model of the site and we understand its extension. The site was a Roman and then a Longobard castrum or fortress intended to control the wide area of the Seprio

The site walls were burned down by the fury of Ottone Visconti in the XIII Century. He decided to destroy every buliding except from the religious ones. Now we can just admire what remains of the ancient architecture: towers, houses, churches and so on
